Helen The Melon | 3432 comments I keep forgetting to post this... D'oh!
Curepedia: An A-Z of The Cure by Simon Price. Out now.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Curepedia-Z-...

"The book is an encyclopaedic A-Z of The Cure examining and riffing on miscellaneous trivia, biographies of the band members past and present, summaries of each album and selected songs, details of the band's various tours and films, and essays on broader topics such as their image, their politics and their influences. Playful, eccentric and irreverent - true to the spirit of the band itself - CUREPEDIA is a comprehensive biography of one of the biggest alternative rock bands in the world."

Hi Suzy. It's really lovely to see you back on Goodreads.

Short answer to your question - no! I don't think you have missed out on anything really special at all. I haven't found much new music that tickles my fancy for a few years now. Nothing has really stood out. I will have a little think and see if there is anything worth pointing you in the direction of, but I really don't think there will be. Sorry. Maybe someone else can have a think too.

message 1124: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Hiyah Helen ... x ... well, actually that comes as rather a relief to hear as I've been so preoccupied over the last couple of years that I've often found I've stopped having the time and energy (and sometimes also the interest too) in catching up with so many other things in life. And then I started to worry that, once you start doing this, it can become a habit and you become even more out of sync and several steps behind what is happening in the rest of the world.

Suzy, I have had a little think and maybe you might like the Swedish synthpop band Kite? Maybe you are aware of them anyway?

I'm not overly familiar with a huge amount of their stuff - I don't have anything of theirs - but I have come across them quite a few times over the years. They are not particularly new and they are not darkwave, more synthpop, but they are loosely associated with the darkwave scene. Here are some tracks for you to try and their Bandcamp:

Step Forward - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mbmZ5XE...

Dance Again - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aLvMOGy...

Ways To Dance - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o2qhXF3...

Count The Days - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eeETDAq...

Bandcamp - https://kitehq.bandcamp.com/music

N.B. His voice might be an acquired taste if you're not used to it. I can't quite put my finger on what I mean. Maybe it has a bit of a Fergal Sharkey-y quavery feel to it?

Ohhh, I really can't put it off any longer, can I?!! ... (laughs)

Helen, my dear friend, I usually love almost all of your taste in Music and so I was delighted to give Kite a try ... but ... AAARRRGGGHHH!!! ;oO

No, I am sorry, but this is unfortunately not a sound that I can bear to endure. I did almost come to like a few of the official releases and I am certainly not adverse to occasionally listening to some Feargal Sharkey either ... but this guy with Kite has a voice that is just far too extreme, wavery, weak and unmelodic for me to be able to get past.

I did also check out several different Kite playlists on YouTube and I really do think you picked out the very best of Kite though ... x x x

message 1133: by Helen The Melon (new)

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments That's fine Suzy. I am no fan of theirs at all though. I have never had any inclination to buy their music or investigate them further myself! I don't listen to them, they are just a band I have become aware of over the years here and there and thought I'd suggest them as I know you are partial to a bit of synthpop. (I'm sure I read somewhere that they were like a Swedish Erasure!)

Yes, his voice is rather strange and yes, I think I found their best songs to post!

message 1134: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments This is probably going to sound very odd but while I am extremely partial to many 80's pop classics which mostly rely on using Synthpop it is more the harmonious quality of the voices and the lyrics that tend to hit a sweet spot with me.

I absolutely adore Erasure, as you know, but even so I am not always that fond of the heavy synth that is used even when I still really love Andy Bell's voice, the lyrics and pretty much everything else to do with the song ;o>

I don't really know how to explain my eclectic taste in Music as I'm pretty much open to everything (except a lot of Classic Music and Jazz) but also quite contrary on what gives me goosebumps and makes me want to turn up the volume or dance around the room ;o>

Hi Sera,
I meant to post about this when "Alone" was released but promptly forgot! I'm not to keen on "Alone", I find it a bit dull and over long but maybe it's a grower. Yeh, I know, I'm sorry. I much prefer "Fragile", I liked it the first time I heard it, phew.

I am glad to see it wasn't just me who was left feeling like I'd ordered the original full-fat deluxe and but had been served the new light diet calorie controlled version. I was left wanting so much more from this.
