Val H. | 22289 comments I've put up another couple of photos of a spider's web. Unknown species.

message 603: by Helen The Melon (new)

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments They're v good pics too, Val. I find it hard to take photos of webs when I'm out & about - they don't show up very well & I come across some really great one's in the woods.
I've added a few more wildlifey photos too. I won't inflict my wood ant photos or mating frog photos on you all; not yet anyway. 😀

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments Warning: Yes, more randomness today. Yes, I'm faffing about on the internet. Yes, another exciting day here. 😁

And continuing with Cure stuff, some quotes from good old Bob:-

"When we started I wasn't the singer. I was the drunk rhythm guitarist who wrote all these weird songs."

"A lot of journalists give me a hard time about how I look, but I've never met a journalist I'd rather look like."

"You put on eyeliner, and people start screaming at you. How strange, and how marvellous."

"I could write songs as bad as Wham's if I really felt the urge to, but what's the point?"

"It's only people that aren't goths that think the Cure are a goth band."

"Perhaps not as badly applied and not as obvious, but for thousands of years, people have worn makeup on stage."

"I have never liked Morrissey, and I still don't. I think it's hilarious, actually, what things I've heard about him, what he's really like, and his public persona is so different. He's such an actor."

"I get a much more extreme reaction when I have my hair really short. I look thuggish when I shave my head and wear big boots. I walk into a newsagent and people think I'm going to jump the counter. It's a much more extreme reaction."

"I wore makeup when I was at school, and I wore makeup when glam started. I started wearing it again when punk started. I've always been drawn to wearing it. It's partly ritualistic, partly theatrical and partly just because I think I look better with it on."

"You can't drink on an eight hour flight, pass out, and then go onstage... well you can, but then you're Spandau Ballet."

(Oh Bob, we do love you. Well, some of us do.)

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments Oh oh oh!...found a top quality Eldritch quote:-

"I don't want people to come and see our gig because of the magnificent things I'm doing with my hips, but it's their evening, you know. They have to have fun. I'm a little bit naive."

Hee hee hee.

And some more:-

"In the beginning, everybody that gets to work with me, thinks I'm nice. But three weeks later, they hear a bell ringing. Then they realise I meant everything I said during that first week. It's not my fault people are not taking me serious from the first moment."

"I have no musical talent at all. I was banned from music classes and told I would never be able to understand anything. I still don't think I can sing, but somehow I get away with it."

"Apparently, I have a totally different sense of humour."

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments And while watching an old episode of Top Of The Pops I noticed (for the first time, never spotted it before) that one of this band (can't remember their names or which one is which) is wearing a Bauhaus t-shirt. Today = 1, one lonely little spider on the kitchen windowsill. But the damn thing had made a web on Kevin (my Old Man cactus). Poor Kevin.
Yesterday = 2, one on the kitchen ceiling, one on my bedroom floor.
Day before = 0, hurrah, a spiderless day.
Fascinating eh?

message 612: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2646 comments Coincidentallly last night I watched 2 spiders on my bedroom ceiling, one was a little bigger than a money spider, the other small but fatter and dark black. The little one kept crawling towards the big one, almost like it was trying to say hello, but the bigger one kept moving away. I waited until they didn't move for a few minutes before going to sleep, I'll tolerate spiders but I don't want them landing on my head!

message 613: by Helen The Melon (last edited Jul 18, 2020 07:11AM) (new)

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments I'd just like to point out that I do not live in some cobweb bestrewn sh¡thole. My neighbours all get lots of spiders inside their houses too (also not sh¡tholes). The outside of our buildings are covered in them for some reason. This area of the village seems to be a spider hotspot. Lots of different ones & lots of jumping spiders...boing.

message 615: by Helen The Melon (new)

Had to look that one up, Derek! Sorry, I'm not a Tolkien fan at all. I hope a giant demon spider doesn't show up but the way this year has panned out so far...you never know.

Yesterday & today I have found lots of teeny tiny baby spiders on my kitchen windows & windowsill. They're pinhead sized and almost translucent. Help.

Oh dear, I'm really not "up" on these cultural references. Had to look that one up too, Sera.

Also...
Observed a giant bumble bee bumbling towards my lounge window today (it was outside, I was inside). Thought it was going to hit the window but no, it sort of stopped & did a weird boingy motion, got stuck, flailed about & eventually dropped to the ground. Then I looked out the window. Yes, there's a giant web covering the middle pane on the outside.

It's started...if I disappear you know why.

They're not bothered about keeping their distance at all. A family of 4 walked past me at a distance of about 10cm the other day, I had nowhere to go, I was trapped.
I'm going to start wearing a giant Elizabethan ruff (two or three times the size of Lord Percy's) & a huge cage crinoline over my jeans. Or maybe a pair of wings.

Helen The Melon | 3432 comments Also, beware...

"Spidermelon

(n) A small arachnid creature who infiltrates fully sized watermelons and lives in them for long periods of time.

Facts:
-Only one eye is seen from the outside of a spidermelon.
-Spidermelons are extremely aggressive and have been known to steal dogs and small children from yards bordering inhabited woods.
-A spidermelon has never been seen outside of its melon. Some scientist believe that the melon actually grows with, and is a part of the spidermelons body.

Eg.
The spidermelon was perched in the tree, waiting to attack the wounded leopard.

The snow owl stood no chance against the spidermelon's keen agility and wit.

If only I had watched him closer, we might still have Samuel with us... damn the spidermelons...damn them."

I've only listened to this song so far & it does sound more promising than the last album but, frustratingly, it's still lacking that classic Rosetta Stone '90s derivitive goth rock oooooooomph.

Yeh, I looked at that sample trailer yesterday but didn't find the music very inspiring (i'm not that keen on the original song tho'). Good idea/sentiment but...

Jolly good. Hopefully I'll give it a listen at the weekend (if I remember).

I wonder if lack of touring income will inspire a certain someone else to release some new material? 😈
