Thanks everyone, yes, it was great! But now I think I will need to do a lot of exercising lol!

Happy New Year everyone!

message 353: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ So cold here, the longest below zero cold spell that I can remember. Still I am inside, feel so for the homeless and the animals.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments My news is kinda boring but welcome to me. Tosca the Terrible (cat) has been outside daily since Boxing Day which is great since I now don't have both cats inside. So far, she hasn't beaten up my sister's cat and has not reduced the bird population!

message 355: by Angela M (new)

Angela M I just wanted to let you know that I have heard back from Terri . She and her husband are both having some health issues and are waiting for some answers. That’s why she has not been on Goodreads. She will keep me posted and I’ll share whatever she would like when I hear back .
Thoughts and prayers for our friend, Terri and her husband Larry .

message 356: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ Good for Toscs.

Was afraid it was something like that. Thanks for letting us know And last and of course sending her prayers and hugs. I do miss her!

May one ask what awful deed she commited to gain the name Tosca the Terrible?

So sorry to hear this about Terri & Larry, but thanks for letting us know Angela! She'll be in my thoughts and prayers - I hope any anxiety waiting for results is minimized and that they both have a clear bill of health soon.

Tosca the Terrible? I had to laugh at that. I once had a cat that we would refer to as Jake the Jerk because he was a bit of a jerk. lol

This is wonderful! I had a cat too so I know how important such news can be for a cat owner. The difference is that mine behaved like a boss everywhere. When we had to bring her to my in-laws when going away, she subjucated my in-laws cat. She had to be the boss also there.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Esther, she was named for the opera Tosca (one f my Dad's favourites) but 'the Terrible' part comes from her being totally aggressive as far as other animals are concerned; she must be the boss. She's very territorial and will take on dogs as well as cats. She also earns it for being the most prevalent bird-chaser I have ever had. I have breathed a huge sigh of relief that she seems to leave them alone, so far but that also could be because most are bigger than she is.

Well it will be cold for us this weekend, windchills below zero F., but our Canadian neighbors would probably shrug it off

message 374: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ Frightful weather throughout most of this country . Are cold is supposed to break on Sunday, thirties forecasted and this after this long Arctic cold spell, should feel balmy. Hope everyone on the east coast are coping, and staying safe.

message 375: by Patrick (new)

Patrick I am reading so much in Goodreads groups right now about bad, frigid weather - apparently everywhere! - that I feel extra lucky to be living in the delightful city of Querétaro, Mexico, where it will be 75 F (24 C) and sunny today. We're at 6,000 feet, and the temperature stays between 45 and 85 F (7 and 30 C) year-round.

The weather here in California has been mild too Patrick, even in this cold snap that's affecting 90% of the US.

How long have you lived in Querétaro?

message 377: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Three years in Querétaro, preceded by six months in Mexico City (not my cup of tea, too sprawling) and three years in Culiacán (Narco Central! A crazy place to live, but I had a good job). Before that, one year in Changwon, South Korea. I have only spent four hours in the US since mid-2010 - a brief layover at LAX when I was moving from Korea to Mexico.

message 378: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 50 comments Got through the major snowstorm here, got cars cleaned off and moved to get spaces cleaned, now the windchill is -4, but the sun is shining! I'll take snow over hurricane's, earthquakes and many other weather issues. I have to go to the bank then I will snuggle up with a good book and keep warm! Tomorrow is supposed to be worse temperature wise!

message 379: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 755 comments Went out to dig my car out. I dressed as warm as possible. my layers had layers. lol. I am now exhausted. I'm going to have a cup of tea and put my feet up for the rest of the day. Getting too old for all this shoveling.

message 380: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 703 comments Not much snow here in Minnesota, but I am getting heartily sick of the cold weather. I live in a basement where all the heat goes upstairs, so I have an electric heater in each room (living room, kitchen, bedroom. I have a large front window (garden level) which leaks tons of cold air. I could try putting that cling film stuff on the windows, but the cats would probably shred it. Anyway, it's fine really, except when the temps outside are below zero, which it has been for days now. Supposed to warm up tomorrow finally! (At least up to 10 degrees, if you call that warm!)

At least one good thing from the cold - it makes me want to hibernate and read! I just finished my second book of 2018 (okay, one was a collection of a comic strip and the other was a children's graphic novel - but finishing them is motivating!) What to read next... One of the randoms reads I drew from my TBR slips is The Frozen Thames. That seems appropriate. And it is a cute little book - maybe won't take more than a day or two...

Joan Patrick, sounds lovely. How is the oxygen supply that high up?
I climbed Mt. Fuji once and stayed for a short time in Quito, Ecuador - and was surprised how much the change affected me.

Joan, this Canadian prairie girl chuckled at your comment! Only because we are now enjoying exactly the temperatures you are anticipating and we are feeling absolutely giddy after the 2 weeks we just came through. The dog walkers, joggers and cross country skiers are back out in full force on the trails along the river here. I will admit to not leaving my house for 3 consecutive days last week.....

message 385: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ I've pretty much been hibernating too, have gone to work and come home to stay. This excessive cold is such a big trigger for my asthma. Back on steroids again.

Awesome joke, Greg. Guess it's all in the perspective!

And about the perspective, definitely! :)

Good question! I don't have any issues here in Querétaro, but I did in Mexico City, which ranges from 7,000 to 13,000 feet.

Alice-Elizabeth (Prolific Reader Alice) (marriedtobooks44) Hello everyone, I'm Alice *awkwardly waves* Hope everyone is safe and well. Been spending the majority of today promoting my boyfriend's Goodreads account. He's new to reviewing books and Goodreads and has been in quite a rough patch recently. The power of friendship is an incredible thing in life and today alone, people have messaged him saying hello. :)

Indipendent bookstores are the best - even if, at least in Italy, life is really hard for them!

Marina (sonnenbarke) My friends, you won't believe this... My ex has actually sent my books back! He sent them at my parents' because I had no intention whatsoever to give him my home address. My mother says everything seems to be all right, although she obviously doesn't know which books I had left with him. She says there is a letter for me as well - I was kind of expecting that, to be honest. Letter aside, I'm so happy! After 5 years!
