Yes, hope everyone in the United States or regions that are celebrating Thanksgiving has a wonderful one! What is everyone's plans? Ron and I are having his brother and parents over, and we're going to do the traditional thing (with some cooking shortcuts) :)

Looking forward to that - I suffer from Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD, appropriately enough) which means a lack of sunlight triggers clinical depression. Luckily for me I actually like snow so it could be worse...

Leslie | 16369 comments So my home screen here no longer shows progress on my currently reading books nor allows me to update. Is anyone else having this issue? So annoying if that feature has been removed as it is one that I really like!

Yes, removed for me too. I have seen a lot of comments with people saying the same thing. I am hoping it's a glitch.

message 2667: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Thanks Alannah. I am glad it isn't just me! Fingers crossed that it is a glitch and that it will be fixed soon.

Leslie | 16369 comments Seems to be fixed now. Yay :)

message 2669: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments So, as I have posted elsewhere, I have decided to tackle the complete Samuel Pepys diary this year. My copy, courtesy of Project Gutenberg, includes extensive notes by Lord Braybrooke (who wrote them in the 1800s). In the preface/introduction, I was surprised to learn that the English pronunciation of 'ea' changed in the early 18th century: 'ea' used to be pronounced "ay" as in the word great, now it is commonly pronounced "ee" as in the word treat. So before this switch, tea was pronounced 'tay', treat was 'trait', etc. Braybrooke comments that the Irish still keep to the original pronunciation. Who knew that the Irish spoke purer English than the English did!!?!

And suddenly some of the older English poetry I have read became much more understandable to me! Those poems actually did rhyme :)

LOL!! I'm taking it in very small doses! So small that despite the fact that I have read a bit every day, my progress has been at 3% for a week.
