It's almost the 4th of July, our American Independence Day, so I have bought lots of food in anticipation. In addition to salads etc. I am going to make caponata, a dish of which I have become quite fond in recent years.

Hi everyone I have been out of touch for a while but for happy reasons - my daughter got married!!My son-in-law decided to arrange a 'surprise' wedding in Gibraltar, so we, a small group of family and friends, have spent the last few months secretly making travels plans and planning where to meet (which was complicated by the fact the none of us are familiar with Gibraltar).
My daughter thought he was taking her on holiday to Gibraltar to propose. Somehow we managed not to bump into them at the airport and various hotels!
When he got down on one knee she was very surprised to see us all popping out from behind the bushes (literally) and then he told her they were getting married! She was ecstatic!
The weather was a bit too hot so after the proposal we all went for a drink and then the evening before the ceremony we met up for a 'family meal' at a local restaurant.
The ceremony was lovely with a kind and friendly registrar.
And now I have a married daughter!
