General Chit-Chat Part 2!
yes Alannah they have been counting the numbers in nursing homes and it has been devastating. just in my state we have had around 444 deaths and most of them have been nursing home residents. I know they have tested all the residents and staff in all the nursing homes in the state and the Governor said yesterday they were going to test us all on a continuous basis.
Hi all! I just got notification that my Overdrive hold of one of our books this month has come in, so I can finally start reading it :)!
I got a new phone from my husband which has some new features or maybe they’re new to me😀. One advantage is Apple plus free for one year. But the best is that I was able to download Libby. Maybe I had it before but didn’t know it. In any event, for The 70th Groundhog Day tomorrow, I will spend time figuring out how to use this.

I'm sure spending the time to figure it out will be worthwhile!
I hope I can figure Libby out since all of my computer gurus are housebound like we are. And I’m afraid that my large collection of kindle books will be mad at me for abandoning them.

The families claim it was due to negligence and are suing. They may have a case becuase no other homes seem to have been hit so badly.

That is very sad Esther and Laura. We get retested today and tomorrow. they are trying to test all the residents and staff at the nursing homes and other facilities, assisted living, group homes etc every two weeks. So far, my nursing home still has no cases. Our state is slowly opening back up so we'll see what happens. I worry about what is going to happen with all these protests going on. one of the hardest hit populations with this virus has been African Americans. I feel like my country is tearing itself apart and for the first time I am afraid of what is going to happen next.

Just popping in to say hi. I have been busy with RL for the last couple of weeks (not covid related, thank goodness) and have been neglecting the internet as a result.

As long as things are fine no problem Leslie; I hope now you'll have more time!

We are trying very hard to keep our residents safe. Even though our state is opening back up I still haven't really gone anywhere. it is always in the back of my mind that I don't want to catch this and bring it to my residents so when I do go out I always have a mask and try to practice social distancing. I just got The Dutch House by Ann Patchett from the library. Has anyone read it? what did you think?
Great news Ruth!!!!
Things are improving in Italy as well - a part from some places in Lombardy or Piemonte things are almost to 0 new cases.
We could even go to the seaside, if only the weather was better!!!

We are starting to open up in the UK which doesn't make much sense. I think yesterday was the first the country has experienced 0 deaths but I don't think it will stay that way as we're still getting about a thousand new cases a day.
Massachusetts is slowly improving but still had 35 new deaths yesterday. We have been one of the most hard hit states though thankfully no-one I know personally has been infected. I have heard that some of the local beaches have been opened but without public restrooms and still requiring masks & social distancing. I don't know how that would work in practice!
We opened up after 4 days of no new cases but of course as soon as everyone was round and about the new cases skyrocketed and everyone is talking about a second wave.Schools opened but if anyone in the class shows symptoms the whole class and sometimes the whole school is quarantined. So a large number of children are still but their parents are expected to go back to work - outside hi-tech most are organisations are still very suspicious of working from home even if the situation showed it was possible.

I don't think we expected no new cases or deaths in MA, but the idea is that the curve has flattened, which is very important. I do hope that a vaccine is found soon!
We were relieved to be able to bring our daughter into our “bubble” last week. She has struggled with the loneliness and isolation of the last 2 months and we believe had a relatively mild dose of Covid back in March . My 89 year old MIL however is still isolated in South Wales where they announced yesterday that people could now travel up to 5 miles for non-essential journeys.

My daughter returned in March from extended travellling and with no home or work to return to she is very frustrated. I am so glad she is with us in our bubble.
It feels good to hear some good and hopeful news from everywhere now. In India also there’s news of vaccine but not yet officially approved.
Also in Italy things seems better: we've started going around for non important matter - I spent 3 days at the seaside.
But in certain areas - Lombardy mainly - things do not seem to get so much better

Just now Indian Government approved two medicines to fight Covid-19 . One is Ayurvedic and the other is Allopathic medicine.

That's good news. The UK have also approved a steriod drug called Dexamethasone. It has proven to help patients who have relied on oxygen.

We are now getting tested every 7 to 10 days. My sister tells me they now have no more cases of the virus at the nursing home where she works and where my Mom is a resident. Their last tests were all negative. So relieved. They had quite a few cases but I don't know how many passed away and how many recovered. My nursing home has been very fortunate that we have not had any cases so far. Our state has been slowly opening back up. I actually went to the library yesterday. I think it was the thing I missed doing the most.

Due to the fact that one of her sons has asthma, she hasn't been working.
Karin, I can understand your friend not working. she has to protect her family. I have a nurse that I work with who just had lung surgery (cancer) who is back at work now and I've told her she really should consider retiring. she is older than I am and she can afford to retire. I guess her daughter is trying to convince her too. Trust me, if I could afford to retire I would.

I hope you have a wonderful time!
How strange these times are, Laura. We are in very strict lockdown (7th week now) and you went to Sardinia! I am so jealous. I just want to be able to go more than 5 kilometres from home.

We were strict closed in Marh and April, now we can go around in Italy. Finger crossed

My country has just been put back into local lockdown. There cannot be more than six people (who normally don't live together) in the same house, however, we can still meet up anywhere outside. It just doesn't make sense. Thankfully, where I live isn't going into lockdown just yet, but I think one of the areas that are has a lot of student accommodation.
