Chrissie I am getting emails for this thread, now after it has been shortened. Are you other guys getting them too?

Walking helps me too when I'm not that fine, above all with the mood. Sadly I don't have a garden but I know that this would help a lot too. In the past I also did some DIY jobs, renewing a small table, a couple of stools, and being physically busy just helps, above all if you do something you like. Usually I take long walks on the seaside. The last time, though it was winter but we had a sunny day, I did 8 km (5 miles) along the seaside. But to come back home I took a bus!
Well, I do a lot of yoga too and this so so helpful!

Diane S ☔ I too am like that, Chrissie. I read more and try to escape my thoughts, or pain. Diversion. Love taking walks by our river, it is also calming to me. Pinched nerves are so painful, hope your let's up soon, Joan.

Love this group, as everyone has said, so supportive.

Thinking of you Chrissie with your cheek and you Joan with your pinched nerve and wishing you both healing. My aunt had a pinched nerve; it can be very painful.

I love taking walks too! Sadly, work has been so crazy lately that I barely see sunlight on weekdays - I can't wait for this horrible project to be over!

message 57: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I hope things lighten up for you, Greg. It is hard when work takes over every second of existence.

Thanks Chrissie! Once this project is over, I feel sure it will get better. I just don't know though when the project will be fully over, hopefully soon!

message 59: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 755 comments Reading has always been my refuge and sanctuary. When I am angry or upset I will go take a walk. It helps to clear my head. I also find listening to music and meditation helpful.
I hope everyone is better soon and Greg I hope your project is completed successfully and you will have more time to do the things you enjoy.

I had a day off today (I worked last weekend) and spent the afternoon in Stratford-upon-Avon. It was the first time I've been but since I've recently moved 20 miles down the road, I think I'll be going again. We went on a canal boat trip and saw the church Shakespeare was baptised and buried in. Next time I would like to visit his house and Anne Hathaway's cottage and I'm planning on seeing a play in Spring 2018 at the RSC, either Macbeth or King Lear

Chrissie, at the bottom of the page, under the comment box, is a notification that says "notify me when people reply". If this box is ticked, you'll get emails. Unclick it. It probably reset when the thread was started.

I have known about that box. It has always been ticked. Even with the box ticked I was not receiving emails. Now I am, after the thread has been shortened. In another group this glitch in GR was discussed and that is why shorter treads came to be implemented.

Chrissie When we stayed there the hotel was f-i-l-l-e-d wit teddy bears. On the stairs , in the chairs and each one was different, homemade. My daughter was into teddy bears at the time. We made them from scratch. So we chose this inn because of the teddy bears. We were always visiting model train arrangements for our son and teddy bear places for our daughter. It made the trip special for them too.

Gorgeous place for which I have fond memories.

Diane S ☔ Heather, sounds so awesome. A maybe someday wish of mine. My son from Indiana and his eldest so is stopping by before going on to Madison, picking up his brother and going to the Packers game. We are celebrating all our October birthdays and going out for a Japanese lunch. Me next was the 4th as is my son's, his son is on the 8th and my hubby's is Monday. Should be fun.

message 69: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Heather, sounds lovely. Years ago I was on a business trip to England and decided I’d stay a couple of extra days even though I was there on my own because I just thought how can I be so close to Stratford on Avon and not go there ? I took a bus tour from London and I was thrilled to be there and tour the houses and see the town. I also really loved the ride through the Cotswolds - just lovely. It’s a trip I’ll always remember.

You should come over, Greg! We are lucky that so many wonderful literary places are found in the UK and it is a beautiful (if somewhat rainy) place to explore!

Belated happy birthday to you all! I hope you enjoyed the Japanese food!
Are you born the 4th October? Me too! And my ex husband the 8th. We have a lot of birthdays too in the family: my ex husband and me, my niece the 18th, my sister in law the 31th and then a couple of friends and several cousins (I have a lot of cousins!).

Joan Doyle is beautiful- and I like that creepy skull/light.

Free download coming soon of an essay collection from Xerox might be interesting to some folks.

I seem to always end up with ginger cats too, though the allergist tells me orange cats tend to cause more alergy reactions. Isn't that weird? I don't know whether to believe him, but Doyle isn't going anywhere. :)

Thanks Joan! - yes, it seems very 'Day of the Dead' inspired to me. It reminds me of the sugar skuls I've seen.
