General Chit-Chat Part 2!
Laura, so glad to hear about your daughter. I am sorry she had to go through a bone marrow examination as I know they are not pleasant. It is reassuring as the 'nasties' would show up in that.
I'm currently feeling a bit stressed out. I'm trying to buy a flat but am on a tight budget and all I can find within a short commute is tiny one bedroom flats. Looking further afield but worried about the commute in. Will probably also need to look at places to rent in case I can't stretch my budget but it feels like throwing money down the drain when I could be paying off a mortgage at the same rate!

Evelyn, I am about to buy welding gloves which are sixteen inches long. My bil says I should just pay more attention to what I'm doing. Men!
Bette , glad you are getting those gloves !Heather , looking for a place to buy can be stressful for sure . Good luck with the search !

Laura, gald to hear you have some more positive news. My best wishes for your daughter.
I have finally gotten fed up with the increased ads on this site enough to install an ad-blocker to my Chrome browser. So much better now :)
Leslie wrote: "I have finally gotten fed up with the increased ads on this site enough to install an ad-blocker to my Chrome browser. It is especially useful when browsing recipes/cooking websites, which are mostly crammed full of ads and extremely annoying.

I'm now thinking about renting for another year and saving a bit more money. Hopefully by then I will also be able to buy with my boyfriend which will increase our mortgage amount. I am looking at a couple more flats slightly outside the area this weekend.
The problem is, I've moved 9 times in the last 10 years so I'm really keen to set down some roots and renting is particularly expensive in Oxford. Luckily I know the area well enough to know where I want to live, but finding somewhere I can afford is a little challenging

Heather wrote: "The problem is, I've moved 9 times in the last 10 years so I'm really keen to set down some roots"I hear you, dear Heather! I've moved 7 times in the last 17 years, which is not much compared to you, but I do feel the need to set down roots. I will be moving for the 8th time in August/September, and I hope it'll be MY home. My boyfriend sometimes talks about possibly needing to move due to work reasons, but I'm totally against that because I need to stay somewhere where I belong.
Heather wrote: "..renting is particularly expensive in Oxford. Luckily I know the area well enough to know where I want to live, but finding somewhere I can afford is a little challenging ..."It was a while ago but I spent my teen years in Abingdon so I know Oxford well.
Before I was born my mother moved 7 times in 6 years and between 3 countries!!
Me, I last moved 5 years ago from an apartment I'd lived in for 17 years!

What she said :0)
Laura, I’m glad to hear that the results are good - fingers crossed that she feels better soon.Heather - the nomadic life can be frustrating - but just think about how nice it is to call the building manager to fix things like stopped up drains.
I’ve long thought that going about in a caravan or living on a canal boat sounds fun but the truth is I’m better with deep roots.
Hi all again!
Even better news today: Marta's plates were 121,000 this morning! This means that the treatment - i.e. Cortisone - is working well.
Now she'll have to diminish it gradually and finally stop it, hoping the value won't alter much. Still we are really glad things have taken this bend!
Thanks all for your support

Thanks for keeping us updated with such good news.
Best wishes for the blood test. Can u ask them to put a rush on the results? Waiting is so nerve wracking.
Just finished talking to the doctor who is following Marta: the plates are back to normal values; now we have to start reducing the Cortisone.
Finger crossed!

So glad to hear this Laura!
My mother has been "cleared" to return to her condo the beginning of June, which is great news for my family! She has been learning to operate an electric chair (sort of scooter/wheelchair) so that she can get around outside her unit with less stress on her heart/lungs. Also we will be hiring an aide to come in for a few hours daily to help out; Mom doesn't like this idea so we'll see how it works out but personally I think she doesn't realize yet how much of a convenience it will be. For myself, it will be a relief to know that she will have someone to help her if/when I can't be there!I am hoping that I will have a bit more time for myself once things get settled & be more able to participate here.
Laura, that's great news. I hope things keep improving for your daughter.Leslie, it's good to hear that your mother is finally going home. Many of my elderly relatives don't want an aide, but I guess they just don't realize it's the best thing for all people involved, themselves in the first place. I hope she'll come to understand that.

Also the mother of a friend didn't want such an aid, but at the end everything went well. Her mother was afraid that this person would have done everything and she would have felt totally useless. But then she realized that this person did only big houseworks or errands she wasn't anymore able to do, while she continued to do her small daily things.

@Laura, that's such a relief, and such good news. Hope they will find out the cause of it soon. Many hugs!
