General Chit-Chat Part 2!

This sounds really awful :/ I remember that for my son, when he was a kid, I used rise starch in the bath. I hope you will improve soon!

Fingers crossed!

Jenny , good luck ! Hopefully this can get resolved! I wouldn’t mind not cooking but I would get tired of “bucket baths” ! Hang in there .

Jenny, my patience would have worn thin by now. I'd probably be going to a family/friend's place by now. Have you got a microwave? You can prepare heaps of food in them, even vegetable meals.

Marina - it sounds exciting to be furnishing a whole apartment! I don't think that I have ever done that, as I had bits and pieces of furniture from family when I started out.
Jenny, I can't imagine not having hot water. Fingers crossed that they get your gas fixed soon!

No, we're not building the house (I don't know of anyone who would have the money for that in Italy nowadays... sadly), I said we have 4 months because I can only stay in my current flat until August 31st, after that my lease expires and I'll have to vacate the flat.
Furnishing the whole house is actually exciting, because we get to buy what we like and we can furnish it according to our own taste, but it is also draining! You can't imagine how tired I am already of all the rushing from furniture shop to the next, thinking about what we'd like to have, pondering on estimates, and finally signing a buying contract... phew! That's a lot of work, lol!

@Bette: in anticipation of further gas dilemmas I shall consider getting a microwave, they are interestingly much less common here than elsewhere. Whenever I am in Ireland or Great Britain everyone seems to have one, but in Germany they are not nearly as common.
Jenny wrote: "The gas is back!! I didn't know having a hot shower in your own home could feel like such a luxury, but just for that feeling alone the nuisance was worth it. Another thing I am really grateful for..."
Great news Jenny!
Great news Jenny!
Glad to hear that, Jenny
Bette, sorry to hear about your eczema. I hope you find a trial that suits
I feel like I’ve barely been on here recently, I’ve been so busy! Work is, as always, keeping me very busy and I’ve got a couple of projects I’m working on which I need to get my head down and sort out before I go away. I have a holiday to Barbados booked in early June and I am so excited! 10 whole days in the sun with my boyfriend, lots of books and a few rum punches
I’m also started to look into moving again. I need to be closer to Oxford where I will be working from August as currently the commute can take me over 2 hours to get home when I go there once a week. I will be renting but hoping to buy somewhere next year

That sounds like it's going to be lovely holiday, I'm a little jealous I'm being left home alone this year, my sister is going on holiday with a big group of friends and their friends, my mum then decided to book herself and my dad on and they are joining my sister. And my brother has now decided to go off and work for four week in Bulgaria so I will be left for a week with seven dogs.

Heather - a trip to Barbados for 10 days sounds delightful! And you deserve it as I know how hard you work.
Marina - I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly for you so that you don't end up stressed when your lease expires!
Thank you everyone. We are both really looking forward to our trip. I’m trying to decide what books to read!

I remember that, when in Uni, a professor of mine, talking about an hypothetical Revolution, said that it was not probable in our days as "hot water is a value nowadays"!
And I do agree with him. I couldn't live without an hot shower!

Seven dogs! My goodness that is a lot. Hopefully once everyone's back home you will be able to treat yourself to a vacation.

Hopefully, I think I will enjoy the peace aand having to clean up after everyone. I was dreading it more when I thought my brother would still be at home.

Sounds wonderful Heather, just hearing about it makes me feel like going to the beach (not advisable, we're back to wind, rain and 15 C° here) Enjoy !

Gulp, that's a lot of dogs Alannah, I think you deserve a vacation after this! What kind of dogs are they? However, now that you have the house all to yourself (apart from the 7 dogs of course) maybe that can be a little mini-vacation in itself.
They're only small dogs, four miniature schnauzers, two pugs and a chihuahua. They are no trouble at all, just yappy and love to bark so our neighbours don't speak to us, not that I mind. lol
Just a brief apparition to say all of you that my daughter is not well; we're waiting for the results of some medical tests and I'm particularly worried. I'll be back as soon as I have some news.

Yes, please, let us know! Hugs!

The relationship between your dog pack and the neighbors made me smile.

Please report back when you know more. Fingers are crossed and thumbs held. worrying sill not help, but I understand you are worrying anyhow.

Laura, I'm so sorry to hear this. I am thinking of you and your daughter. Hope you'll share good news soon.

Laura, I am sorry to hear about your daughter and hope that things have a good outcome.

The happy big news--my son (one of the reasons life had been so busy due to college and scholarship auditions and applications, many concerts and rehearsals, etc) will be going to Boston Conservatory next year, but still has 7 more performances before he graduates in early June, 3 with high school, for at his prep school then he gets his wisdom teeth removed, etc.
But there is plenty of other news, good and stressful (as with all of us), but I hope to have a bit more time this summer here (one can dream).

{{{Laura}}} hope that everything turns out okay! You will be in my thoughts.

Congrats on your son's acceptance into Boston Conservatory!
Hi all.
THings are a bit better today: we have just received the first results of the bone marrow examination, and they are good: no alteration whatsoever.
We still have to understand why she is so thrombocytopenic, and how to set things right, and the road is still long to go. But we are happy of how things are going.
Thanks for all your support!!!

I had to look for it on Google, I didn't know what it is. I'm sure they will find the cause. Fingers crossed they will find it soon.

Karin, glad to see you around again. Congratulations to your son!

Laura, glad the results have been good so far, though I know how frustrating it is to wait for snswers!.

That is good news! I hope that they figure out what the cause is soon - fingers crossed for something easily treatable.

Laura, let's hope your daughter's prognosis continues to improve.
Late Autumn here in AU, it's my sixth day of running my Coonara woodfire heater. A few missteps at first, but this morning is the fourth morning I have managed to relight it from the hot coals of the night before. One downside of my managing a wood fire, I have nearly a 'bracelet' of burns where my wrist has bumped into the side when I am loading on wood. And I am already so over carting the wood from the woodshed into the house, what a bummer that part is. Got rid of a lot of frustrations yesterday axing the logs into kindling.

I'm glad to hear that her bone marrow has not altered, and hope you get an answer soon.

Laura, that's the best news! The doctors will find what is causing this. Her bone marrow is normal; that's the best news. Hugs.

Bette your "bracelet" sounds very painful. Do you have an outdoors store or a hardware store nearby that may carry thick leather gauntlet style gloves?

How exciting! I'm sure it's a wonderful feeling. When I first bought my first house with my ex husband, we bought also the furnishings that were inside. That family had to move far away and they were happy when we asked to buy also the furnishings (and we didn't pay a lot for them). I have bought only in these past 5 years a new kitchen and and a new bedroom. But I'm not a shopping fan, so I was glad about the secondhand furnishings of the first house. I still have several of them.
I hope everything will go on without problems!
