ABANDONED. Alternate Medieval Fiction - Doomed Lesbian Romance into Child Rearing

I read this book something over a decade ago I think.

As I recall, the premise involves a princess and a guard(?) of hers in an alternate medieval world. They are in a sapphic relationship, but the princess ends up pregnant (I think she's actually raped at some point) and she dies in childbirth. The other woman now has to raise the child and she has mixed feelings over the kid due to his birth so she's fairly standoffish towards him and his possible royal destiny.

And then at some point they wind up a fair of some description, and the kid gets lost, the woman panics and I don't really remember where it goes from there.

Checked it out. This is not correct, thought it was an interesting read (at least for the first half).
