Joyce Hey, all! Didn't know if anyone has seen a description of or preordered this book. By the same author as 'Wicked', and many others, he basically takes old stories/fairytales and expands on them greatly, focusing on a main character or two, and giving their story/sharing their unique perspective with others. Btw, these 'rewrites' of classsic stories are not all 'nice', and are really written for an adult audience....MacGuire's books have some pretty intense adult themes in them, so don't read them aloud to your children/grandchildren.

This one takes the wooden created character of the Nutcracker (that comes to life by magic) and the character of the magician who creates him, Clara's Uncle Droselmeyer (sp?) , both from the classic 'The Nutcracker' Christmas story, and creates a unique story for the reader from the character's own points of view.

It's a preorder on Amazon right now. I LOVE the original book and ballet....this and 'A Christmas Carol' by Dickens are my two Christmas favs. I love the Nutcracker so much that I named my beautiful and sweet white golden retriever 'Clara'!

If you love the Nutcracker story as much as I do, and are interested in reading about these two characters in more depth, at least within the imagination of Gregory MacGuire, you might want to check this one out!

I have already preordered it myself!
