third person past tense, especially when there's multiple POV. Never really like first person when there's more than one POV.
I love third person, especially in fantasy, because it allows you to explore the world... for example, the Throne of Glass series third person was really great! But I also like first person in, say, romance, because it allows you to see what drives the character and why they did what they did...
Actually, I think my favourite point of view would be first person multiple POVs, when you can differentiate between the narration style of all the characters. Then it gives them much more depth, like I live the Six of Crows duology and One of Us is Lying because they allow you to get inside everyone's minds, without being similar.
But then there's also a whole other type of book, like Percy Jackson, in which first person past tense works really really well, and keeps me hooked... do I guess the real answer is, it depends on the authors writing style and the genre of the book..
I've recently read three books, not YA, but all in first person and found it powerful. So much so, that I'm thinking of trying to write something like that. I'm about to start the sequel to Stonechild, which is third person. What do others think if the sequel was to change?Stonechild
I read mostly fantasy, hence I like third person limited the most. I have however started to read more contemporaries and I find that first person is very powerful in conveying emotions, so I enjoy reading in that POV as well.
In YA I prefer first person. It's easier for me as a writer, usually, because it helps keep me in the narrator's head. Example: Talent
I'm a big fan of first person because it allows me to feel more connected to the story, but third person can be just as effective when written really well.
I like first person best because I love getting a glimpse of a character's voice and how they see the world. Third person limited can work, too, but I've always perferred first.
Luna wrote: "I like first person best because I love getting a glimpse of a character's voice and how they see the world. We don’t exactly know what the character is thinking. Six of Crows does third person well. :)
First person, especially if the MC has a distinct narrative voice. I just have more of a propensity to connect with the characters in this pov.
i tend to really submerse myself better in first person books. i don't mind third person of course, but my mind tends to drift off more
Definitely third person. First person could be annoying when I don't like the MC and when I would act in a different way, but the book keeps telling me I did something stupid and not like me at all. My favorite is third person with various PoVs.
I think 3rd person. If I had to do a ranking, this is it:
1. 3rd person limited
2. (Close second) 1st person
3. 3rd person omniscient
4. 3rd person objective
5. 2nd person
I like when one book contains different first person(s) chapters, switching between character. It gives you an equal insight and depth into various characters and makes the book more interesting 🙂
It depends on mood. For a period of time I would look specifically for books with first person POVs to read.
First person with different main characters perspectives. It helps you understand different characters, their motives and reasons.
Hmmmmm....first person cause then it feels as if they are actually telling the story, and sometimes they are.
First person, because I can feel her/his emotions and toughs as mine, also makes my imagination fly and try to guess what will happen in the following pages, and is funny when the author surprise me and has a different plan for me.
I like first person and third person, third person provides more information and first person is good to get to see from the characters perspective.
first person for sure, cuz I travel with the characters, makes me root for them and character development hits hard
First or third, it honestly depends. Sometimes the first person can be actually annoying, and sometimes the third person can feel like I’m not given enough character :(
first person, I have ADHD if I read 3rd person pov my brain gets laggy and I get distracted without understanding a damn thing. I'm struggling with Brandon Sanderson even though I want to read it.
Alicia wrote: "I like first person because I feel like I can connect with the characters better"I agree but I like it where you have the first person of more than one person
Both but 3rd person is nice when the MC is annoying as hell. Sometimes I don't want to be in their head
i like the third person but when it’s very clearly from a certain character’s perspective. like six of crows
First person for suree I connect with characters more when im seeing their prespective, what made me like first person was the naturals series because I loved cassie's prespective but then again it depends on the main character of the book for me
