My Kindle Fire now supports "hands-free Alexa" (like an Amazon Echo), so I switched it on to play with it. I have the option to change the "wake word" from "Alexa" to something else. (This will make it South Park proof. :)

I want a clever wake word that's scifi inspired, but I'm not coming up with a brilliant inspiration. I've considered: "HAL", "computer", "HARLIE", "ship", "EDI", "colossus" & "mother". I'm still considering Wintermute, since it's at least not likely to activate by casual conversation, (I've also rejected all names used to address a BrainPal™ in Old Man's War. :)

Any suggestions....?

You're using Alexa? Bit late to start worrying about Creatures from the Abyss!. Might as well just name it Cthulhu.

Roger How about Sonny? I nice I-Robot reference but still easy to say and not really common.

Ah, "SkyNet" is a possibility....

Davy | 47 comments Shazam? Meaning the superhero, but I suppose it would get confused with the app :)

Otherwise "Holly" if you're a fan of Red Dwarf ...

Shazbot. I finally picked one (tentative) choice, only to discover I'd misunderstood what the "set wake-up word" button did. Apparently I only have a choice of pre-sets, not license to make up my own.

Alexa, send a note to Jeff...

Randy Harmelink | 894 comments I was gonna say that there were only four choices, but I thought maybe the Fire app had been given an enhancement we were all about to get.
