nocheese | 6824 comments I'll light the fire
You place the flowers in the vase
That you bought today
Staring at the fire
For hours and hours
While I listen to you
Play your love songs
All night long for me
Only for me

Come to me now
And rest your head for just five minutes
Everything is done
Such a cozy room
The windows are illuminated
By the evening
Sunshine through them
Fiery gems for you
Only for you

Our house is a very, very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy
'Cause of you

I'll light the fire
While you place the flowers in the vase
That you bought today

Craig White | 6727 comments I can hardly bear the sight of lipstick on the cigarettes there in the ashtray
Lyin' cold the way you left 'em, but at least your lips caressed them while
You packed
Or the lip-print on a half-filled cup of coffee that you poured and didn't drink
But at least you thought you wanted it, that's so much more than I can say
For me
What a good year for the roses
Many blooms still linger there
The lawn could stand another mowin'
Funny I don't even care
As you turn to walk away
As the door behind you closes
The only thing I have to say
It's been a good year for the roses

After three full years of marriage, it's the first time that you haven't
Made the bed
I guess the reason we're not talkin', there's so little left to say we
Haven't said
While a million thoughts go racin' through my mind, I find I haven't said a word
From the bedroom the familiar sound of a baby's cryin' goes unheard
What a good year for the roses
Many blooms still linger there
The lawn could stand another mowin'
Funny I don't even care
As you turn to walk away
As the door behind you closes
The only thing I have to say
It's been a good year for the roses

Val H. | 22208 comments There's a big white house on a leafy street
On a summer's day of 1963
Station wagons parked in the drive
Dents in the fender and wood on the side
There's kids and dogs and instamatic cubes squinting hard in the sun
Not just yet, but one day too
They'll be chasing what's already gone

You grow up tall and you grow up tough
Trying to never admit not feeling good enough
Until you find your passion and you find your way
Just trying to make it unscathed through every day
And it seems to happen nearly overnight
Life shows you who you've become
And there's no more mystery in the fading light
You're just chasing what's already gone

Like the line that spells the far horizon
Moving with you as fast as you can run
Half your life you pay it no attention
The rest you can't stop wondering
What you should have done
Instead of chasing what's already gone

Saw my father in a dream last night
He was smiling and saying "You're gonna be all right"
And this morning I stared back at myself
Feeling as empty as I've ever felt
But I keep on going and I hope I've learned
More of what's right than what's wrong
It's ashes and roses and time that burns
When you're chasing what's already gone
Ashes and roses and hearts that break
I tried so hard to be strong
But maybe my worries were not my first mistake
I'm chasing what's already gone

(Mary Chapin Carpenter)

Craig White | 6727 comments I see the shapes,
I remember from maps.
I see the shoreline.
I see the whitecaps.
A baseball diamond, nice weather down there.
I see the school and the houses where the kids are.
Places to park by the fac'tries and buildings.
Restaurants and bar for later in the evening.
Then we come to the farmlands, and the undeveloped areas.
And I have learned how these things work together.
I see the parkway that passes through them all.
And I have learned how to look at these things and I say,

I wouldn't live there if you paid me.
I couldn't live like that, no siree!
I couldn't do the things the way those people do.
I couldn't live there if you paid me to.

I guess it's healthy, I guess the air is clean.
I guess those people have fun with their neighbors and friends.
Look at that kitchen and all of that food.
Look at them eat it' guess it tastes real good.
They grow it in the farmlands
And they take it to the stores
They put it in the car trunk
And they bring it back home
And I say...

I wouldn't live there if you paid me.
I couldn't live like that, no siree!
I couldn't do the things the way those people do.
I couldn't live there if you paid me to.

I'm tired of looking out the windows of the airplane
I'm tired of traveling, I want to be somewhere.
It's not even worth talking
About those people down there

Martin O' | 2196 comments And buildings pulled down
Time spent in places my footsteps had found
Mirrors in ballrooms lie smashed on the ground
Walking with November mists
Pathways and windows and movies in May
Quiet old ladies who soon pass away
Paintings and songs that I'd done in a day
Going round in my head
Fires on spires and chimneys of black
Fields on horizons with pylons that crack
With singing sad wires of council house mystics
To apply their statistics
And read the tea leaves
Time knows no limits for days such as these

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments The Gypsy spread the tea leaves to find the reason why
You took my heart, and broke it, and told me all those lies?
The sign of loving someone was seen there in the leaves
But why was it another? - why couldn't it be me?

The tea leaves are just one way to show me I have lost
Someone near to me, someone dear to me, for her I'll pay the cost
The Gypsy broke my heart, dear, though I know she meant no harm
There were teardrops on the tea leaves because you're in another's arms

Craig White | 6727 comments You've got to pick up the pieces
C'mon, sort your trash
You better pull yourself back together
Maybe you've got too much cash
Better call, call the law
When you gonna turn yourself in? Yeah
You're a politician
Don't become one of Hitler's children

Bonzo goes to Bitburg then goes out for a cup of tea
As I watched it on TV somehow it really bothered me
Drank in all the bars in town for an extended foreign policy
Pick up the pieces
My brain is hanging upside down
I need something to slow me down

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Somebody pick up my pieces, I'm scattered everywhere
And put me back together, Put me way over there
Take me out of contention, I surrender my crown
Somebody pick up my pieces, It's just me comin' down

Well, I sure thought I had her? Lord, I know she had me
But what I thought was Heaven, Is just falling debris
Well, I may not be crazy, But I got one hell of a start
Somebody pick up my pieces, I think I'm fallin' apart

And don't follow my footsteps, Step over my trail
The road is too narrow, And your footing could fail
And the fall to the bottom, Could tear you apart
And they'll be pickin' up pieces, Of you, and your heart

And don't follow my footsteps, Step over my trail
The road is too narrow, And your footing could fail
And the fall to the bottom, Could tear you apart
And they'll be pickin' up pieces, Of you, and your heart
And they'll be pickin' up pieces, Of you, and your heart

nocheese | 6824 comments I fall to pieces
Each time I see you again
I fall to pieces
How can I be just your friend?

You want me to act like we've never kissed
You want me to forget
Pretend we've never met

And I've tried and I've tried
But I haven't yet
You walk by and I fall to pieces

I fall to pieces
Each time someone speaks your name
I fall to pieces
Time only adds to the flame

You tell me to find someone else to love
Someone who'll love me too
The way you used to do
But each time I go out with someone new
You walk by and I fall to pieces
You walk by and I fall to pieces

Weston did a skank and each man laugh and feeling irie, dread I
Street 66, the said man said
Any policeman come here will get some righteous, raasclot licks
Yeah mon, whole heapa licks
Ours(?) beat, the scene moving right
When all on a sudden
Bam, bam, bam, a knocking pon the door
"Who is dat?", aksed Weston, feeling right
"Open up, it's the police, come on, open up"
"What address do you want?"
"Number 66, come on, open up"
Weston, feeling high, replied, "Yes, this is Street 66, step right in and
take some licks."

Ah! when my jukebox baby takes the floor
'round the old jukebox in the candy store
The joint starts jumpin' till the roof comes tumblin' down!

(Choo-choo-wah, choo-choo-wah
Shooby-doo-wah!)

Jukebox baby
You're the swingin'est doll in town!

(Jukebox baby!) Put a nickel in for Maybelline
(Jukebox baby!) drop another one for seventeen
(Jukebox baby!) whisper to your daddy-o
Three little love words (Ko-ko-mo!)

How ya gonna get your homework done
When you keep that jukebox on the run?
You don't dig Latin like ya dig that crazy sound

The beat was going strong, Playing my favorite song
And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me, yeah me ...
And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me, yeah me ...

Singing, I love rock and roll, So put another dime in the Jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll, So come and take your time and dance with me

Owww!

He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name
But that don't matter, he said, 'cause it's all the same
He said, "Can I take you home, Where we can be alone?"
And next we were moving on, he was with me, yeah me ...
Next we were moving on, he was with me, yeah me ...

Lez | 7490 comments Standing in the rain with his head hung low
Couldn't get a ticket, it was a sold out show
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the wall, then like a distant scream

He heard one guitar, just blew him away
Saw stars in his eyes and the very next day

Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store
Didn't know how to play it but he knew for sure

That one guitar felt good in his hands
Didn't take long to understand
Just one guitar, slung way down low
Was a one way ticket, only one way to got
So he started rockin', ain't never gonna stop
Gotta keep on rockin'
Someday gonna make it to the top

And be a jukebox hero (Got stars in his eyes)
He's a jukebox hero
He took one guitar (Jukebox hero, stars in his eyes)
Jukebox hero (Stars in his eyes)
He'll come alive tonight

In a town without a name in a heavy downpour
Thought he passed his own shadow by the backstage door

Like a trip through the past to that day in the rain
And that one guitar made his whole life change

Now he needs to keep a-rockin', he just can't stop
Gotta keep on rockin', someday he's gonna make it to the top

And be a jukebox hero (Got stars in his eyes)
He's a jukebox hero (Got stars in his eyes)
Yeah, jukebox hero (Stars in his eyes)
With that one guitar (Stars in his eyes), he'll come alive
Come alive tonight

Yeah, he's gotta keep a-rockin'
Ain't never gonna stop
Gotta keep on rockin'
Some day gonna make it to the top
And be a jukebox hero (Got stars in his eyes)
He's a jukebox hero (Got stars in his eyes)
Yeah, jukebox hero (Stars in his eyes)
Jukebox hero
Jukebox hero
Jukebox hero, he's got stars in his eyes
Stars in his eyes

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments When I started out I thought that I would make it double quick.
I had that kinda confidence that I was picked to click.
But if you could stand in my shoes you wouldn't feel so smart,
'Cause I'm A1 on the jukebox, nowhere on the charts.

My agent gives me spendin' cash, his pockets seem so deep.
I'd live just like a millionaire if it were mine to keep.
But money ain't a problem, no, it ain't the smallest part,
When you're A1 on the jukebox, nowhere on the charts.

A1 on the jukebox, played in every bar.
A1 on the jukebox, big Wurlitzer star.
I'm nowhere on the hit parade 'cause no one likes my art,
And I'm A1 on the jukebox, nowhere on the charts.

I spend the fortune on the trades, They take my every cent.
I see my name in black and white but words don't pay the rent.
I know that I could clear a room if only I could start,
But I'm A1 on the jukebox, nowhere on the charts.

And I'm A1 on the jukebox, nowhere on the charts
Yes, I'm A1 on the jukebox, nowhere...

Val H. | 22208 comments "Do you know who I am?" said Bill Haley
In a pancake house near the Rio Grande
The waitress said, "I don't know you from diddley,
To me you're just another tired old man"

He walked alone down on Main Street
A hot wind was blowing up from the south
There were two eyes staring in a pawn shop window
And a whiskey bottle was lifted up to his mouth

CHORUS
There was no moon shining on the Rio Grande
As a truck of migrants pulled through town
And the jukebox was busted at the bus de - pot
When Halley's Comet hit the ground

He blacked out all the windows in his bedroom
He was talking to the ceiling and the walls
He closed his eyes and hit the stage in 1955
As the screams of the children filled the hall

(repeat CHORUS)

This cop walked into a pancake house in Texas
And ordered up a couple of cups to go
And he tells the waitress, "Hey, I just found the body
Of some guy who was famous long ago"

But you don't know me (no you don't know me)

And longs to kiss your lips
Longs to hold you tight

Cause you don't know me (no you don't know me)
I never knew the art of making love
No my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too (love me too)
You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
Oh you will never know
The one who loves you so
Well you don't know me
I never knew the art of making love
No my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments I don't know quite what's happening
and my eyes don't see too clear.
All I know is I need you here,
if only to shield me from the mood of the world
and hold me and say it doesn't matter....
but I'm like a child whose dreams are shattered.

Crowding round me: images of broken thought,
lines of my life now overgrown.
All I can feel is I'm so alone,
without even your bright eyes to reach into my mind
and say that in my life I've done right,
and I'm like a moonchild in the sunlight.

So cast your thoughts upon me, wherever you are,
that I may feel you close beside me
and hold your hand, for you to guide me
through all these catacombs that freeze me with their touch;
unknowing, but knowing so much, my mind cries out
and I'm like a child when the light's out...

with a child's fear of the dark.

Val H. | 22208 comments I don't know you with that hair
Two dimensional reflection
Unforgiving unaware

Part time dreamer
Would be player
You thought fame could outrun fear
Something clearly terrified you
Did you choose to disappear?

Guess again
Guess again
You made friends
And some still ask about you
Now and then

Well you sang a pencil promise
That you thought you might erase
Left a fault line on your future
Someday heartache you must face
Earned a black belt in disaster
End up acting like a jerk
It's a fact of life, your final act
Is gonna need some work

Where've you been?
Where've you been?
Learning lessons on the road to hell
And back again.

And someone asked me once
Where do we go when we arrive
If you're lucky, when it's over
The dreamer's still alive.
A blessed mystery
For sweeter souls did not survive
But if you're lucky, when it's done
Somewhere deep inside
The dreamer's still alive.

Once reality's your roommate
And the truth stands at your door
All your records have been broken
Trophies won't shine anymore
New beginnings are the challenge
But you don't know where to start
Unimagined gifts are waiting
Love will find your grateful heart

Then again
Once again
You will come to know the simple man you've always been.

And someone asked me once
Where do we go when we arrive
If you're lucky, when it's over
The dreamer's still alive.
A blessed mystery
For sweeter souls did not survive
But if you're lucky, when it's done
Somewhere deep inside
The dreamer’s still alive.

The anger will be gone
And the cynic will move on
And, if you're lucky

He said"It's been twenty long years

If you find somebody that you need
Go ahead and tell her, show her what you mean
And soon you'll find that love is blind and free
If you see Sally or Smokey tell them hello from me
Tell 'em I hope they're happy
Working the beach, just out of reach, but free
I asked the boy in the picture how's your brother been?

I, of course, replied "Something here inside, Cannot be denied"

They said someday you'll find, All who love are blind ... Ohhh-Oh ...
When your heart's on fire, You must realize, Smoke gets in your eyes

So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed, To think they could doubt my love
Yet today, my love has flown away, I am without my love

Now laughing friends deride, Tears I cannot hide ... Ohhh-Oh ...
So, I smile and say, "When a lovely flame dies, Smoke gets in your eyes"

Smoke gets in your eyes ... Smoke gets in your eyes ... Smoke gets in your eyes

Is being sought beyond the waters of these shores
I'm lying here directionless
Somewhere i hear the slamming of a door
The darkest clouds were onto me
I'd taken to the bed both day and night
There were times when i'd turn back the clock
I'd love to start again and get it right
It's gone beyond a joke

Diesel engines in the night time
Drawing beet down to the factory
RIP
The cead mile failte at the half door
History

The bones of our ancestors
Are buried in the field behind the shed
They could be lying there oblivious
Underneath cement before I'm dead
Roundabouts and one way streets
Double yellow lines to beat the band
Still takes you longer to get anywhere
Simple things so hard to understand

It's gone beyond a joke
I'm going out for a smoke

I've seem the after-birth of beauty
Where the genius' and the monster's worlds collide
When the swinging of the pendulum's the strongest
It's always the greatest, wildest ride
With the evenings getting shorter
I wonder can we forge another dream
Gather up the pieces and assemble one more winning team
A century's the most you'll see
Not a long time really to be here
Trying to get the balance right
The health, the drugs, the lovin' and the beer

It's gone beyond a joke
I'm going out for a smoke...

Val H. | 22208 comments One summer night by the gates of the Leyland factory
Big Jim copped an old-fashioned in the back of a Red De-Lux taxi
From the left-handed Jenny, a Mascot hat maker
She'd sold herself out for as far as Big Jim could take her

When they got hitched at the hatch, match and dispatch
There were no bridesmaids, no best man
Just a big bus to catch
To a caravan park on Toowoon Bay
It was a long weekend
It was the Queen's Birthday

These are just details that don't mean a thing
No heart in the chest, no scar on the skin
No bump and grind, no backslide
If you got to know what's real
Let's have a smoke outside

They raised Jimmy and Iris, both hit the wrong crowd
Jimmy cut his hair like a Sharpie, Iris played her 45s loud
Back when Big Jim was dealing in the car park on Wellington Street
Larco hoodie on his mullet, Adidas Rome's on his feet

Drain another Hi-Lo up against the annex
Parked for a Shelley Beach sunset
Big heads, Best pies
It's a town of front yard mechanics

Big Jim taxed a Datsun, hit the Beaconsfield "Wales"
He rode the Southern Cross Drive, past the Malabar Jail
He parked in the shadow of a Prince Henry pine
Counted out on the bonnet to The Baby's "Isn't It Time"

These are just details that don't mean a thing
No heart in the chest, no scar on the skin
No bump and grind, no backslide
If you got to know what's real, if you want to do a deal
Let's have a smoke outside

Craig White | 6727 comments Debonair lullabies in melodies revealed
In deep despair or lonely nights
He knows just how you feel
The slyest rhymes, the sharpest suits
In miracles made real
Like a bird in flight on a hot sweet night
You know you're right just to hold her tight
He soothes it right, makes it out of sight
And every thing's good in the world tonight

When smokey sings, I hear violins
When smokey sings, I forget everything
As she's packing her things
As she's spreading her wings
The front door might slam
But the back door it rings
And smokey sings, he sings

Val H. | 22208 comments You sigh, the song begins, you speak and I hear violins
It's magic
The stars desert the skies and rush to nestle in your eyes
It's magic
Without a golden wand or mystic charms
Fantastic things begin when I am in your arms
When we walk hand-in-hand, the world becomes a wonderland
It's magic
How else can I explain those rainbows when there isn't rain?
It's magic
Why do I tell me myself these things that happen are all really true
When in my heart I know the magic is my love for you?
It's magic
It's magic
Why do I tell me myself these things that happen are all really true
When in my heart I know the magic is my love for you?

Craig White | 6727 comments Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Oh, let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Lez | 7490 comments When I first knew her she was a dancer
She'd leap (confidently)
Knowing that should she fall
It would be into the arms of her partner
She never failed to get a curtain call
For years we had been one with the stars
A Pas de Deux of reknown
I'd leap and he'd catch me on the fly
And gently he'd put me down
The heights that I reached were dangerous
And I saw my partner strain
And felt when I had landed
His strength was on the wane
Back before my knees were blue
Backs broke bending in a step for two
For years we had been one with the stars
A Pas de Deux of reknown
I'd leap and he'd catch me on the fly
But once I came crashing down
Now I'm a weaver
Wall-hangings if you please
In everyone I feature
A dancer with bruised knees
Doop do...

Val H. | 22208 comments My neighbour, Mrs Fanshaw, is portly-plump and gay,
She must be over sixty-seven, if she is a day.
You might have thought her life was dull,
It's one long whirl instead.
I asked her all about it, and this is what she said:

I've joined an Olde Thyme Dance Club, the trouble is that there
Are too many ladies over, and no gentlemen to spare.
It seems a shame, it's not the same,
But still it has to be,
Some ladies have to dance together,
One of them is me.

Stately as a galleon, I sail across the floor,
Doing the Military Two-step, as in the days of yore.
I dance with Mrs Tiverton; she's light on her feet, in spite
Of turning the scale at fourteen stone, and being of medium height.
So gay the band,
So giddy the sight,
Full evening dress is a must,
But the zest goes out of a beautiful waltz
When you dance it bust to bust.

So, stately as two galleons, we sail across the floor,
Doing the Valse Valeta as in the days of yore.
The gent is Mrs Tiverton, I am her lady fair,
She bows to me ever so nicely and I curtsey to her with care.
So gay the band,
So giddy the sight,
But it's not the same in the end
For a lady is never a gentleman, though
She may be your bosom friend.

So, stately as a galleon, I sail across the floor,
Doing the dear old Lancers, as in the days of yore.
I'm led by Mrs Tiverton, she swings me round and round
And though she manoeuvres me wonderfully well
I never get off the ground.
So gay the band,
So giddy the sight,
I try not to get depressed.
And it's done me a power of good to explode,
And get this lot off my chest.

Craig White | 6727 comments I danced before I had two feet.
Sang before I had a tongue.
I laughed before I had two eyes.
Loved before my heart was young.
I swam before I had two hands
and held the distance in my toes.
Before I heard the stars I knew
the wild compulsion of the rose.
I bore the fruits of many lies.
Before I came into this day.
I knew before my grave was made,
the worms eat only death away
the worms eat only death away
I danced before I had two feet
I danced before I had two feet
I danced before I had two feet
I danced before I had two feet.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I danced in the morning when the world was begun
And I danced in the Moon and the Stars and the Sun
And I came down from Heaven and I danced on the Earth
At Bethlehem I had my birth

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance, said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he

I danced for the Scribe and the Pharisee
But they would not dance and they wouldn't follow me
I danced for the fishermen, for James and John
They came with me and the dance went on ...

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance, said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he

I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame
The holy people said it was a shame
They whipped and they stripped and they hung me on high
And they left me there on a cross to die

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance, said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he

I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black
It's hard to dance with the Devil on your back
They buried my body and they thought I'd gone ...
But I am the dance, and I still go on ...

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance, said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he

They cut me down and I leapt up high, I am the life that'll never, never die
I'll live in you if you'll live in me, I am the Lord of the dance, said he

Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance, said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he

nocheese | 6824 comments Sweet is the melody, so hard to come by
It's so hard to make every note bend just right
You lay down the hours and leave not one trace
But a tune for the dancing is there in it's place

The dance floor's for gliding and not jumping over ponies
where boots and gold bracelets come and meet as they should
It's for celebrating a Friday night romance
Forgetting the bad stuff and just feeling good

An arm's just an arm 'til it's wrapped 'round a shoulder
looped side by side they go stepping out together
A note's just a note 'til you wake from your slumber
and dare to discover the new melody

Sweet is the melody, so hard to come by
It's so hard to make every note bend just right
You lay down the hours and leave not one trace
But a tune for the dancing is there in it's place

Craig White | 6727 comments The sound of the jungle is beating in my head
But I know my mind ain't my own
Why am I still walking when I know I should be dead
Why won't it leave me alone
My feet move in rhythm to the death dance
But my heart stopped beating long ago
I wanted to live but I had no chance
My mind keeps moving even so

I died 48 hours ago
But I'm still walking around
Something won't let me lie in peace
There ain't no rest to be found
The people are dancing around me
The witchdoctor stands and he stares
His magical powers have bound me
The voodoo rites have ensnared

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I've tried everything I know to make you happy
Never knew someone could be so hard to please?
Loving you is hard - and I'm not sure I'll make it?
But at least I've learned how to stand on my own two Knees

I've still got my pride it's just that I misplaced it
Anyway, it's better lost than no one sees
Maybe, I'm not strong enough right now to hold you?
But at least I've learned how to stand on my own two Knees

It wasn't long ago you'd have me crawling
Ohhh, but look how far I've come, can't you see?
Well, I know I'm still not walking tall but I'm trying
And at least I've learned how to stand on my own two Knees

Yes, I know I'm still not walking tall but I'm trying
And at least I've learned how to stand on my own two Knees

I've got a question for you
Please grant me an interview
Don't want to read it in a magazine
Don't want to see it on the silver screen
Don't let the craziness tear us apart

I'm down on the knees of my heart
Down here on the knees of my heart

This comes from deep in my soul
Your sweet love has taken control
I'll swim across the ocean if you tell me so
I'll take you to the jump up if you want to go
It never is too late to make a brand new start

I'm down here on the knees of my heart
Down here on the knees of my heart

Oh how I will sing if you give me everything
I live for the day when there's nothing in our way

I will be waiting tonight
You'll find my boat by the light
I'm gonna show you what my love can do
Out on the ocean all alone with you
We'll find a desert island on an ancient chart

Take me from the knees of my heart
Take me from the knees of my heart
Take me from the knees of my heart
Take me from the knees of my heart

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Some say that you may soon be leaving town?
Do you tire of chasing all the women around?

Will you never be contented with your life?
Will you always be the one who won't think twice?

When you go down on your knees, You're so hard to please
When you go down on your knees, You're so hard, down on Mission Street

God only knows how you can hurt her?
When you know that's what you do?
How does it feel to be so cruel?

Will you never be contented with your life?
Will you always be the one who won't look back?

When you go down on your knees, You're so hard to please
When you go down on your knees, It feels like up, down on Mission Street

Julie said your eyes are blue, Your lips are cold as stone
She picked you up and you put her down
And messed her place around

Will you never be contented with your life?
Will you always be the one who won't think twice?

When you go down on your knees, You're so hard to please
When you go down on your knees, You're so hard, down on Mission Street

When you go down on your knees, You're so hard to please
When you go down on your knees, It feels like up, down on Mission Street

Val H. | 22208 comments A heaven's to Betsy now we're 28 and what is there to do?
We hardly even talk no more but to you I'll be true
Tell me that you feel the same even though I knew
Everything that you say right before it came from you
Art house movies and flat renovations
Newspaper politics and dinner reservations, oh
And Monday's wine appreciation course
Talk about the drugs that you just won’t touch no more

What a breeze just help me off my knees

Yeah, you met her during happy hour drinks and you kissed her on the cheek
You dreamt she sang like Sandy Denny and smoked like a Mallee tree
But now you're talking invitations and seating plans and marquees
It sounds real good in Italian but it scares to the teeth
And where're we gonna hide the keys

And you fold your arms behind your back like an old man
And you say you hate that guy but you sure understand him oh
And she's creasing at the mouth just like her old lady
Her sister's picking the names for the babies, oh

What a breeze just help me off my knees

do do do do

Now we're 28 and what is there to do?
We hardly even talk no more but to you I'll be true
To you I'll be true
To you I'll be true
To you I'll be true

And then he said he'd give me more or less, Of just what I've always wanted
But you, don't give me anything, and I don't ask you
Just yourself is good enough, That's just what I've always wanted
Just what I've always wanted, Hoh-oh, just what I've always wanted

He said he'd make of me a millionaire, That's what I've always longed for
Not one Picasso, he'll give me a pair, Just what I've always dreamed of
But you, don't give me anything, and I don't ask you
Just yourself is every thing, That's just what I've always wanted
Just what I've always wanted, Hoh-oh, just what I've always wanted

I've got a mink from Paris, a ring from Rome, A whole new wardrobe in my home
A tune from Tenney, an Ashworth snap, These are the landmarks on my map
I've got just what I always wanted, She's got just what she's always wanted

But you, don't give me anything, and I don't ask you
Just yourself is everything, That's just what I've always wanted

And they still sound the same as when you were there
The only thing different, the only thing new

I often kiss you when there's no one else around

Val H. | 22208 comments In the night, there are sights to be seen
Stars like jewels on the crown of a Queen
But the only sight I wanna view
Is that wonderful picture of you

On a streetcar, or in the cafe
All of the evening, and most of the day
My mind is in a maze what can I do?
I still see that picture of you

It was last summer, I fell in love
My heart told me what to do
I saw you there on the crest of a hill
An' I took a little picture of you

Then you were gone, like a dream in the night
With you went my heart, my love and my life
I didn't know your name, what could I do?
I only had a picture of you

Then you were gone, like a dream in the night
With you, went my heart, my love and my life
I didn't know your name, what could I do?
I only had a picture of you, oh yeah
That wonderful picture of you,
I'm left with a picture of, oh yeah
That wonderful picture of you

It's a hand to hold and a story to tell
And every time I think about love I see ...
A picture of you looking back at me

Well I'd pick you up in my old man's car
We wouldn't go fast, we wouldn't go far
Sitting right there in my front seat
You were the prettiest thing I'd ever seen

Time goes by so fast
And when it's gone, it don't come back
If I could leave this world with just one memory? ...
It'd be a picture of you looking back at me

Well I promised your daddy I'd have you home
And we'd swing under the Porch til' he turned the lights on
And underneath the moon and a million stars
Is where I stole a kiss and you stole my heart

Time goes by so fast
And when it's gone, it don't come back
If I could leave this world with just one memory? ...
It'd be a picture of you looking back at me

Time goes by so fast
And when it's gone, it don't come back

Val H. | 22208 comments A picture's worth a thousand words
But it can barely scratch the surface
Of all I have seen and heard
And while all around is worthless
I see you in sepia, I see you in black and white
Even in my wildest dreams
Even on my darkest night
Can't leave it there, can't let it drop
Can't walk away
I have you hanging on my wall
And I sing every single day

Away away
Where only memory can find you
Away away
Leaving this poor fool behind you
It's just a memory, though I can hardly see
Photos of yesterday almost good enough for me

I wake up on restless days
So much noise, so little sleep
I just lie awake in bed
I resolve to make believe
And imagine that you're here
That you never went away
It gets so easy to dream
But oh so hard to face the day
I can't forget, I won't forget
But honestly what can you do?
When I hate everyone,
I hate everything that's keeping me from you
