Is that the excuse you use, when you've got a bit of a chub on?

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Last evening as we went out for Minnie's PPP about 5pm the bloody fox and the entire tom were waiting in the (open plan) garden opposite - they clearly have formed an axis of evil and torment. This morning Minnie saw the tom walk across the street and lunged behind a hedge only to back off sharpish when the tom came out back arched, tail fluffed and crab-walking side on and didn't stop coming towards us ............... we beat a hasty retreat indoors, discretion being the better part of valour and all that. I have no proof but I reckon he's caused at least £150 of vet's bills over two attacks leading to infected neck wounds on our neutered tom (who could learn a lot from Falstaff's maxim).

I suggest you invest in a water pistol, fill it with diluted orange squash or similar, then spray the little bastard. It'll probably avoid you after a couple of goes. Turning tail is probably the worst thing you can do, as you're conceding dominance to the damn cat.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Foxy there again tonight - seems to understand 2m social distancing since that's how far away it was all the way up the private road/track but Minnie, after the initial over-excitement, made decent progress without looking back.

People keep saying to their dogs, "She doesn't want to play with you." In point of fact that's exactly what Minnie'd like to do, regardless of the difference in size. She engaged in mutual high-speed loopiness with a big terrier in the country park and again the owner was concerned so I have to reassure them that she often starts it, that suddenly rolling over is a tactic that looks dramatic but it makes the big dog overshoot and that they're taking turns to chase and be chased complete with play-bows to show they're both into it ...... or maybe I need to get more 'precious' about her, get a pink collar (for her not me, although .....) , bootees and a little raincoat (her again ....) and over-protectively pick her up everytime a big dawg is in the vicinity?

There is no evidence that she was aware of the impact of her behaviour, and no feedback was given to her at the time. The high pressure and demands of the role, in the Home Office, coupled with the need for more supportive leadership from top of the department has clearly been a contributory factor. In particular, I note the finding of different and more positive behaviour since these issues were raised with her.”

Try this on the next time you have a run in. Brass Neck | 3979 comments "Try this on the next time you have a run in. So sorry but i was not aware of the impact of my behaviour and i'm really really positive now." - feigned ignorance is a common tactic. When I was the main/only local union caseworker for the Grimsby area I would regularly get stressed out, bullied teachers ringing, usually late on a Sunday or at the end of one of the (many, so so many) holidays and telling me, "I've got it all written down in a little book" whereupon I would gently point out the utter pointlessness of anything private and it's unreasonable to expect someone to change if they're not clearly informed about what they're doing wrong - that's also why management always call you in to their office to administer a bullying; no record and, because they didn't advise you you could bring a 'friend', no witnesses. I try to get them to write down in the most neutral terms (avoiding personal pronouns) the latest event along with the physical and mental impact it had on them and then end with a question like, "Was this the intended outcome?" or "Can I be given reasonable notice of future meetings so I can arrange to be accompanied?" Most will not take this step as it's too late in the bullying process and they're too cowed but the few that do have fed back to me how it virtually instantly changes the behaviour and tactics. Been trying to get my son to do this with his piss-poor line-manager but he just keeps off-loading his pent-up and inflated woes on his mum on the phone.

Boy am I glad I'm now retired! Curiously I half-expected to take up the union casework reigns again now I have the time but, unlike the pragmatic approach of the NUT which welcomed anyone prepared to do it (and very few were/are), the new NEU seems to believe to be a senior local officer you need to be employed in local schools. Their loss.

It doesn't surprise me that the Guardian should trivialise the row about fishing. The EU has a very bad track record on the issue (not just in European waters), but really it's actually more important than anything else. Continued overfishing could cause long-term damage to a healthy marine environment. I'd have thought the 'green' lobby would support any efforts to correct that, but it seems the Guardian prefers the Bob Geldof approach of sneering from their ivory tower.

https://www.theguardian.com/environme...

It's perhaps unfair to single out Barnier for criticism on this, as the true culprit on every issue preventing a deal is actually Macron.

" Continued overfishing could cause long-term damage to a healthy marine environment." - aye, that'll be Bozza's chief concern and a good reason to send out the gunboats; the 'environment'. Mind you it would sound like a plausible lie and far more believable than most of the outright porkies he tells us and anyone who's in earshot with a huge smirk on his chops.
