Post Soviet (postsoviet) | 551 comments heheh... my new obsession just began,
First thing I bought Air Press two months ago...
next thing I found this,
http://coffeeblog.co.uk/
...and craziness took off...

Already checked Lavazza Oro and Qualita Rossa (the latter drinking right now),
Taylors Of Harrogate couple titles, Cafedirect etc.

Next update was grinding coffee beans on my Nutri Ninja Blender. Smell, mmm....
And I'm a newbie, REAL coffee gourmets NEVER buy stuff in supermarkets, they go to Huehuetanango when the moon is full...
alright, got carried away.
Thanks for suggestion suzysunshine, haven't tried Lidl's Java Sumatra yet.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Post Soviet wrote: "Thanks for suggestion suzysunshine, haven't tried Lidl's Java Sumatra yet"

I tried out a packet of each of the Lidl Coffees when I first got my De'longhi Coffee Machine a couple of years ago - as someone had said how good they were on the Amazon Forums.

I found most of them were okay but a little too weak on flavour for me whilst a couple were quite strong but far too bitter to my taste - however the Java Sumatra was an immediate favourite and has ended up being the only Coffee that I have been buying ever since.

I've discovered that I most definitely prefer a stronger, richer and really full-flavoured Coffee and this one always manages to hit the spot for me.

I really must get around to starting to experiment with trying out other brands and blends myself - but, in the meantime, Lidl's Java Sumatra is my favourite everyday Coffee ;o>

I only ever go into Greggs for their Mince Pies every year - as I think they are the best ever and simply can't be beaten. I buy in bulk and fill up the Freezer with them ;o>

You can zap them for 20 - 30 seconds in the Microwave from frozen if you like them warm but they don't freeze to be rock-hard and solid and so they can be eaten straight from Freezer if you are really fancying one and can't wait to indulge yourself ... ERRR? ... or so I've heard anyway! ... (*giggles*)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments My best ever Hot Chocolate came out of a very small Tassimo Machine that was in a Waiting Room in a local Private Hospital. I only went for a few appointments but that free Drinks Machine turned me and Mum into a right pair of naughty greedy kids! - LOL!!!

We would go very early and have a Hot Chocolate each on arrival - then another just before my Appointment, AND another one when I came out if no-one was looking! We would both need to use the Loo before we left to come home again and which ever one of us came out of the Loo first would often have got us both another Hot Chocolate just waiting to be drunk before we finally made it out of the Hospital Door! ... HA HA HA!!! ;o>

Lez | 7490 comments This is from Which?

Aldi Specially Selected Roast & Ground Ethiopian 100% Arabica Coffee £1.79/200g 82%
Best Buy This rich, dark coffee is great with and without milk. It's strong but balanced, with a lingering sweetness.
Marks & Spencer Single Origin Colombian Roast & Ground Coffee £3/227g 78%
Best Buy Complex, rounded flavours - including toasted nut and floral, fruity notes. A great black coffee.
Percol Fairtrade & Organic All-Day Americano £3.90/200g 76% Best Buy
Particularly good with milk, thanks to its treacle-like sweetness and balanced flavour.
Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Kenyan Fairtrade Ground Coffee £3.30/227g 73%
A smooth coffee with a clean, spicy taste - but it looked 'muddy' with milk.
Costa At Home Roast for Cafetière and Filter £3.50/200g 72%
A good, balanced brew that's full of flavour - but with a marked acidity.
Starbucks House Blend Ground Coffee £3.50/200g 71%
A darker roast with woody, spicy notes - however, some experts felt its character had been 'roasted away'.
Carte Noire Roast & Ground Coffee £3.79/250g 71% This mild, smooth coffee is a good everyday option, although our experts felt it lacked character.
Asda Extra Special Colombian Roast & Ground Coffee £2.98/227g 70% Due to its lighter roast, this coffee has a spicy acidity - but it lacks body.
Lidl Deluxe Guatemalan Roast & Ground Coffee £1.79/200g 70% This 'intense roast' won't be for everyone; the bold, rich taste may seem strong and quite bitter.
Waitrose Sumatra Mandheling Ground Coffee £3.29/227g 69% Suitable for those who enjoy near-espresso strength, but this coffee may be overpowering for some.
Morrisons M Signature Colombian Coffee £2.99/227g 69% This coffee is fine as an everyday option and particularly suited to cafetières.
Cafédirect Machu Picchu Coffee £3.50/227g 66% Our experts detected a bitterness they described as an almost 'old-fashioned' coffee flavour.
Tesco Finest* Java Sumatra Roast & Ground Coffee £2.99/227g 60%
This 'dull, ordinary' coffee failed to impress our experts, although it's a perfectly acceptable everyday option.
The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Guatemalan Fairtrade Roast & Ground Coffee £3.59/227g 59%
This coffee lacked character - even though it looked 'very dark' and 'almost unpleasant' with milk.
Taylors of Harrogate Fairtrade Organic Good Morning Blend £3.89/227g 58% There's nothing wrong with this coffee, but our experts found it 'unremarkable' and 'uninteresting'.
Lavazza Qualità Rossa Roast & Ground 250g £3.25 Med. ‘Disappointing’ Too light and flat to show any character.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Val wrote: "Gosh, I feel a right philistine cos I drink ..."

I was raised by parents who would only ever drink Mellow Birds Instant Coffee and only discovered the pleasure of drinking real Coffee when I started to treat myself to the occasional one at Costa - which hit the Coffee craving spot for a while - but I now find it to be nothing special on any discernible flavour and also far too expensive to continue to do too often.

I bought both my M&D and my friend in Cumbria a very simple easy-to-use De'longhi Coffee Filter Machine each but, in all honesty, I get to use and enjoy them much more than anyone else does - as my friend just drinks whatever is the quickest and nearest to hand and my M&D have got themselves set in the habit of preferring to pay for their almost daily Coffee treats out instead.

I am still predominantly a Tea drinker but these fab Machines have helped to save me a lot of money and allow me to have a really great Coffee whenever I suddenly feel like I want one ;o>

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Val wrote: "Gosh, I feel a right philistine cos I drink..."

I stopped drinking instant coffee at home about a year ago. (I still drink it at work because making fresh coffee makes too much mess.) Apart from the fact that it's much nicer, the faff involved in making fresh coffee has cut my consumption in half, which I'm sure is a good thing. I don't use a pod system because my household already creates far too much plastic waste. I have an espresso maker (de'Longhi: a Christmas present from many years ago), a very cheap filter machine from Asda, and an early-seventies vintage art-deco percolator. The latter is one of my most treasured possessions.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I've discovered I really like a strong full-flavoured Coffee - and preferably one that has a really rich taste, is also slightly 'smoky' too if possible, and with a hint of a honey finish to it ... if anyone has come across a good one?

When I am out and about and have really enjoyed a Coffee, it has usually turned out to be a French Dark Roast on asking about it ;o>
