I think you're supposed to. You get to see his sympathetic side in his relationship with Amat. People are morally complex creatures. In real life people may feel trapped in a situation, or make excuses to justify their actions. He's just doing his job. The banality of evil and all that.

The whole scene, the last one between him and Amat (also the one when she prevented him from speaking his heart) was masterfully written. And I also admired how 'ordinary' tropes have been reworked here.

I almost gave it 5 stars, but I am leaving space for the rest of the series to grow:):):)

It does. I gave them all 5*'s but book #3 is the best.

While I am enjoying it, I am in a mood for something else. I might come back to it in a couple of weeks.

Kelsey, I hope you can find it on Audible so you can join us!

I will!

I agree with everything you said here, Veronica.

That was my main issue with her too.

I am going to continue the series, but I am not sure if I will keep up with the schedule of the with the buddy reads. I am a moody reader and lately my reading mood has been very volatile.

The second book gives major improvement, I think. I gave the first one three stars but the second one is a solid four.
