Thanks, Ed! You read so many interesting books for so many challenges that I think it's ok not to finish this year - it's not like you were slacking! ha, ha....

Sometimes it is. I am finding 'Q', 'X' and 'Z' increasingly difficult to find an author for (that can even remotely be considered having written a 'classic' book). Also, there is the problem of my lack of interest in some classics - there are some I can guarantee I am never going to read. It has been helpful to subvert it a little as I did with the sci-fi focus this year. Aside from helping with the basic challenge of finding someone for a given letter, it is interesting to make a deeper (or maybe broader would be a better word) dive into a specific genre.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5296 comments Wow, I'm impressed with the goal achievements! I might try the classics A-Z challenges in 2019, but I haven't decided yet. If I do, I really enjoy Émile Zola, so I'd be ok on the Z at least;)

Zola! Yes, of course! I always forget about him although he is on my TBR list (which is so darn long I lose track....). I'll have to slot him in for 2020.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Thanks, Karen. I discovered him via 1001 books. I have read that the old Vizatelly translations aren't very good - Victorian, and Zola was a rather racy author. I am not a re-reader, but I am thinking of eventually reading some of the recent translations.

Thanks for the tip;) I'll check what I have for translations. I ordered a full set for Kindle and it could very well be the older translations.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Well, I read the Vizatelly and became a fan, but still ...

Is there a list for the children's books or do you actually have the book? Lately I have been so nostalgic about the books I read back when I was a child.
