*EDIT* I renamed the thread, because the download season is now over... And this topic turned random :D

You heard me right, Scott Westerfeld is letting everyone download his book "Uglies" for free, for only the next month or so. So if you are reading this topic past September of '09, chucks, too bad. If you need any comformation, you can look at his official blog's post:

http://scottwesterfeld.com/blog/?p=1294

You must provide your email, then you are set to go. Enjoy, my weird but cool bretheren!

The website that provides this---> http://www.simonandschuster.com/givea...

DAMNIT I ALREADY BOUGHT THE BOOK AGES AGO!!

You know they're making a movie?

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Didn't know that, cool. I still think it's cool to download the book, should the day ever come when I can afford a Kindle (the day may never come) the PDF could just easily be another extension of the book.

Yep. I'm downloading it, too. Since I'm not American, I just used 90210 as my post code!

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol. The most popular zip code of them all. I sometimes forget what zip code I have, and opt for 90210 myself. XD

You must. It's not just awesomely entertaining, it also tackles themes in it. In my mind, it's got the impact that should make it a modern classic.

I know!!! It's so good!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess I'm just kicking myself for not getting it in the book fair in 2005. Back then everyone was reading it, and I guess that's why I avoided it.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

*Shrugs* It reaches certain areas, I guess.

♥Jenny♥ Liz wrote: "YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I've read it. And I must say that it was not as good as I expected to be (due to the fact that everybody said that it was great). It's was a decent read, definitely not the best.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

At least you won't read it again.

message 23: by ♥Jenny♥ (new)

♥Jenny♥ Hehehe, yeah. But I did try to read the next book in the series. *shakes head* I couldn't do it.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I also heard that the first book is the best and the later ones don't compare. Meaning, there's nothing to look forward to.

message 25: by ♥Jenny♥ (new)

♥Jenny♥ Ah, well that's not good.

The second one's okay. The third one is REALLY good though.

I know!

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I saw it at a bookfair when they first came out, so yeah...

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

You can go to the link provided and download it though, this month only. But you can only get it if you also have adobe reader installed.

Lol, a lot of Lily's posts end that way... You poor thing. :P

Yeah. A few people were saying how it's not as great as the series goes on, but I like the series. I haven't read the fourth book yet, but it's kinda disconnected anyway.

Really? I didn't like the beginning of Uglies. I was thinking of putting it back in the library cart, then it REALLY started to get interesting and I ended up sticking with it. So, yeah, I really liked it. It wasn't my favorite series but it was awesome!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome. :)

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved that when I read it four years ago. I almost forgot about it.

Yeah it seems like it!

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

It was fun to read, way back when, I actually considered getting the next book in the series. Which was odd because I didn't read much.

message 39: by ♥BookGeek♥, Secret blogger unite!! (Super Awesome) (new)

♥BookGeek♥ (BookN) | 343 comments Mod
Why?

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Why I considered getting the next book in the series, or why didn't I read much?

♥BookGeek♥ (BookN) | 343 comments Mod
Yes that's exactly what I meant

message 42: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 20, 2009 02:41PM) (new)

I don't really know. I guess I didn't appreciate books back then. When you keep getting boring books handed to you to write tons of essays on, you begin to have a negative assossiation with them in general.

I hate when people say reading is so gay. I want to bust their head open with a hardback book when they say that.
'Killed by a Hardback; Boy found Dead at school with a busted head from a Hardback book.' Wow. What a wierd headline...

message 44: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) thats a good way of looking at it

Yeah, that headline would be the weirdest thing ever. But there's an even weirder one:

"Boy found dead at school with a busted head from a...Paperback.
Authorites still have no idea how a small paperback could be used as the weapon."

But Paperbacks are not hard though! They don't hurt as much as hardbacks do!

That's why the authorities are so confused.
