Terri | 19576 comments I missed out on doing the Hadrian's Wall course last year. They are going to run it again this year and will catch that one instead of going back now and doing the course alone.

message 19: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments Signed up for the Hamlet one too. Like to keep balanced in the literary world

message 20: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments You are getting so cultured with all your learnin', madam. :)

message 21: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments That is the best part of retirement. I can go back and take courses on all the things I had no time for when studying for medical school.

message 22: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I wonder if I'll ever get a retirement. :) As farmers with no kids, when retirement age happens we would have to sell the farm to retire. lol. So, no retirement ever for me. A semi retirement for hubby though, as he works off farm as well.

My parents are the same. Being farmers who used to also own an off farm business. They 'retired' (sold the business) but as farmers, they'll never retire.
:)

message 23: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments Well, I hope they love what they do. I was a practicing physician for 40 years and really loved the work. Then I felt that both the practice of medicine changed here in the states and I was ready to move on to other things. I don't regret it cause I was successful in that career when women were only beginning to come into their own as career women. I accomplished what I wanted to do and helped pave the way so the women of the next generation had fewer skeptics that it could be done, and done well.

message 24: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Who has started?
I haven't, but I will any day now. Is it interesting?

message 25: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments Started both that one and the one on hamlet. Both are interesting. The Portus one seems a bit disjointed but only in the first week. Hopefully will get better. Don't want to print up all the various maps so I have to keep flipping back and forth. That is a bit offputting

message 26: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Are you very far through week one yet? Have you gotten to the week one test?

message 27: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments Yes aced it

message 28: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Nice one.

message 29: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments You might like the hamlet course. Goes into a lot of psychology of characters and what an audience in Elizabethan times would think of this kind of play.

message 30: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Nah, I hate Shakespeare. :) They shouldn't have forced it on me in Highschool.

message 31: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments I am liking it, more for the human themes of jealousy, madness, lust ? Incestual love (hamlet for his mother?) than for the study of shakespere.

message 32: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments Starting this today. Been busy with an interview. First clear day.

message 33: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments Have finished week one of Portus. Pretty good, we'll see how it progresses.

message 34: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Going to try and find time to start it today.

message 35: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments My copy of the March/April 2015 issue of Archaeology magazine came today.
There's a humongous feature of several pp. on Portus complete with colored pictures: "Rome's imperial port". Anyone interested might want to take a look at it.
I couldn't find a link online to send. Maybe it's too recent?

message 36: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I couldn't find anything either.
I did find this one from 2011. http://popular-archaeology.com/issue/...

Yes, I found several others also. I'm guessing that in a month or two it will be up online. This mag has as their current issue the one previous.
@Terri and other Vikingophiles: in the same issue of Archaeology there's also another long article on Vikings in Ireland.
