but hey, do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law!

I do wonder why such a notion is not favourable, given that many songs nominated & won..are often very old ones (on the regular themes rounds)...so we'd have heard of them before? Maybe that's the problem...some folks here only are interested in new music, so once a new to them song has been heard..they pay it no attention thereafter....essentially..always moving on to the next thing?
I personally, have fogotten most of what went before..so to me..i see it a trip down musical memory lane...even if some of them were terrible!
I see it like this: Now then, i know some folks have little interest in sports. I must admit, although i'm not big sports fan myself, bar the odd tournament, however i do feel as if the winning songs from any round, kind of only achieved as far as the group stages...and they need to be pitted against other winning tracks to find out which will come out top. But most see no value in this, bar myself Val & Jemma to date.
Perraps, it's the just the my competitive nature of my personality..that sees the value in it..but..if there are few takers on this..then it ain't gunna work, is it!
Nevermind..it was just an idea.

First off, I'll take umbrage to the comment: '.some folks here only are interested in new music, so once a new to them song has been heard..they pay it no attention thereafter....essentially..always moving on to the next thing'
Wonder where you got that idea from? I don't know about anyone else but if I come across a track I like but I don't know, my tendency is to go and look further into the artist and see what else they have. If it looks interesting enough I'll go and buy an album or two. If I really dig them, I will end up with their entire discography. I have lost count of the amount of albums I have picked up because I heard them here first and just fell in love with them. Over time, they get assimilated into, and become part of my collection. They don't get forgotten about.
As for the competition aspect, what are they competing for? The adulation of the number of people who voted for them out of our little band of what, between 15-20 people?
I can see what you attempting here Duke, but I think you might well find that with one or two exceptions, most of us aren't here to challenge each other, but simply to share the music we are listening to in the hope that one or two others may also appreciate it.
If it goes ahead I might end up taking part just to keep the numbers up, but I don't feel any enthusiasm for it.
Keep the ideas coming though, it's good to discuss them.

It was just for the fun aspect of it more than anything else..but then if most of the contributors won't enjoy it, then i'll can quite happily dump the idea!
No worries.

They're horny, go for it.

What are saxophones called, if they ain't a brass instrument, then Nick?
As far as concerned..they're made of brass and they're a musical instrument..so seeing as my nom features will one..I'm bally well nom'ing it! :)

Officially, they're part of the woodwind family, as a sax uses a reed.

So, bar Trumpets, trumbones..et all, what other instruments are actually of the brass kind then, Tim?
Is a clarinet one?

Trumpet
Cornet
French horn
Euphonium
Trombone
Tuba
Bugle
Flugelhorn
~~~~~~~~~
WOODWIND
Flute
Clarinet
Basset horn
Saxophone
Bassoon
Oboe
There are lots more of each.
Now then...i wonder how many rock musicians use a Euphonium? Whatever that is?! ;-D
I did a resumé to spare Duke's eyesight!
Just to confuse things a touch, the Cor Anglais (English Horn) is a woodwind instrument. 😎
Gawd you lot can argue about owt …., at inordinate length. Brass says brass, for the purpose of Brass' brass theme, includes;
Trumpet
Cornet
French horn
Euphonium
Trombone
Tuba
Bugle
Flugelhorn
AND
Saxophones
Nowt remotely HORNy about 'em so no."
Not even a brass one?
Put them in as a separate theme?
Vuvuzela ?
