Val H. | 22141 comments Helen, don't worry about whether we've done it before or not. Who cares and who remembers? I do have a master list from Round 1 - blast from the past names from those early rounds: Lez Lee (much missed), tech, easytiger, Red M, David E, Johnny B, RAB, nic, BJT, RedAlFire, Tikka, T.F., Sparky, Liquidator, Blastronaut, Neph, Spacepig, Gordon, Gorgal Windsor, Huck Flynn; Philip was there but now only on footy tipping sites.

You and I are still going from those first rounds, also Sera69, Derek, Grimmy, SussexWelsh, FishyJim, Tim, K.J.S., TheFoe, Jemma (formerly Travel Fan) and Brass Neck - do we rate a long-service medal???

Jemma | 1234 comments Hi Val. I’m still traveling with you all. ‘Travel Fan’ AKA Jemma. 🤣

message 1003: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Oh wow! I did not know that! I used to get mixed up between Travel Fan and Telly Addict. Great to know that you also belong in the long service brigade. I'll edit my post to reflect you are an original!

I must still be very much a youngster then...even though, this year marks the 10th anniversary for me! I came in towards the end of the year with the Cream Of Rounds and the now defunct Artists thread, and the following spring, i immersed myself with my first stint on the AFL footy tipping thread. A decade almost done....how time flies?! And yet, i'm still a baby! :)

Sera69 | 1921 comments I have a few topics to add, if Val can arrange them in the list as and when :)

1. "Old fogeys club" - The oldest song you like. No classical music but pastorals, madrigals and even hymns if you want, but recognisably a song. Not the oldest song you know, but the oldest song you like. I mean that could be something from the 1880's or 1980's :)

2. "What's playing" - Literally the last two songs you heard before nominating. I'm sure we all have our playlists on repeat or Spotify on shuffle, perhaps the office radio... But the whatever those last two songs were, even if it's the same band, nominate them ! No cheating to be cool ;)

3. "Bronze medal" - the 3rd song on an album. The place where the singer's ballad goes to die, where rock albums flounder and the spectre of the skip button looms large. Does anyone do albums anymore? Pick the 3rd song. No greatest hits, original artist album only.

We can be the judge of how crap it is! I very much doubt we would have an issue. We sometimes ask for clarification but are willing to give everything a go.

I still pretty much only do albums, so:

2) Likely to be the final 2 tracks off an album
3) No problem

Likewise, I don't do radio, Spotify or Playlists, just albums from my NAS drive.

Song titles containing a word that has been used by car manufacturers as a model name. For example, viva, fiesta, dart, zephyr, ram, etc.

TheFoe | 2638 comments I have an idea for a theme but not sure what others think. Basically it's nominating a song that you have before, but one that earned you a wooden spoon. Songs that you were left shaking your head because you didn't garner even one vote. The stipulation is that if you nominate a song, it has to be at least from a year ago, no recent nominations. This way some songs will get votes, (say if people voted for 7 or 8 songs in the past and your nomination just missed out because they ran out of votes), or maybe you just nominated an absolute stinker. Be interested to see what everyone thinks. :-)

I'll do some more tomorrow. One thing I did notice was the conversations the posters used to have, a lot of the times quite humorous. I miss those days, as we as a collective don't seem to communicate as much anymore.

Val H. | 22141 comments Thanks Nick - you're welcome to the task. I'll just add the last five from 2019:

2019 The Heath - Last Harbour Helen Theme 229 A song that has a reference to the countryside in it's title

2019 Lost In Time - Charlotte Hatherley Fishy_Jim Theme 230 Bonus tracks

2019 The March of the Siamese Children/Kashmir (live) - Feast of Fiddles Derek Theme 237 Songs/instrumentals that feature a violin(s)

2019 Rebel Angel - Hoodlum Priest TheFoe Theme 240 Songs featuring the word Angel or Devil

2019 Clockwork Creep - 10cc Fishy_Jim Theme 242 Any song featuring human whistling

I finished up at the end of 2019. So the next theme to check would be Cream Of 2019 - Winter - Round 2 - (closed 10pm Wed 1st Jan) which is on Page 13.

The 25 "spoons" I found are entered into an Excel spreadsheet only because I thought it might help to sort the final list by each poster's name so they can choose which track they wish to nominate, assuming they won more than one wooden spoon.

What do you think about fast-tracking your theme and doing it soon after you finish the list because, as things stand, we've got about six months' worth of themes already proposed for this year. It would save you adding another possible 25+ tracks.

I agree with you that I miss all the chat and banter we used to have. Did we really have more time on our hands? Were we younger and more carefree? Or do we just miss the posters who aren't around any more?

Another thing that amused me: when I looked at the final voting tally on each theme, I tried to guess which track I had nominated. I was amazed how I struggled to guess correctly about 75% of the time.

Thanks a lot Val really appreciate your research in this theme. I think I really miss Tech/Craig and his quick sense of humour and never really understood why he left the forum, ditto Spacepig and Johnny too*. It does feel a little bit like the soul has been ripped out of this forum, but that said in the past there were more people and predictably more banter went on. I do miss the old days though.

* and of course Lez, who wouldn't have thanked me for starting a sentence with a conjunction!

Edit - with regards to fast tracking this theme, I'm going to go through this daily until it's completed and I'll post the results asap.

My Corona: We're All Home Bound - Clare & Mel Vaz (Lez Lee) and Dance Macabre - Ghost (Jemma)

Feel Good Songs: Lay Down (Candles In The Rain) - Melanie & the Edwin Hawkins Singers (Derek)

Freak Out! Uncut Magazine's Weird 100: Air - Third Ear Band (Derek)

Ironically the reason I had the idea to do a wooden spoon theme, was because I nominated a song ages ago that got one and I wanted to renominate it. However, said song isn't in my list as it was older than 2017, and as I can't prove it, it will have to be renominated in a future Wildcard theme.

Thanks Val/Tim.
