Come to think of it, have we done this recently? If so I'll come up with something else.

Val H. | 22141 comments I thought we had done it but I can't find it on my master list and it goes back to Round One, Number One which was 1. Weapons - easytiger

Funnily enough I had an almost identical theme I was going to add at some future date. Mine said :
"You're In The Army Now! - any song with a military title in the title or artist - captain, vice-marshall, lieutenant, general, squadron leader, colonel, commander, admiral"

So is it great minds think alike or fools seldom differ???

Sometimes a hit version can overshadow the original recording; not saying the cover(s) isn't better but I rather think some original versions deserve more credit than they get.

Just for the record then, a list of British Army ranks
Private (the lowest rank, there are variations - in former cavalry regiments it's trooper; in the artillery it's gunner, in the engineers it's sapper, etc)
Lance Corporal
Corporal (in the artillery, these are lance bombardier and bombardier)
Sergeant (and variations such as colour sergeant, staff sergeant, sergeant-major, etc)
2nd Lieutenant (if you want go old school, before 1881, these are ensign in the infantry and cornet in the cavalry)
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Lieutenant-Colonel
Colonel
(Brigadier) (not a general rank, but a field rank)
Major General
Lieutenant General
General
Field Marshal

There are also such as Warrant Officer (which is a kind of glorified Sergeant, and the highest non-commissioned rank), and Officer Cadet, the rank held prior to commissioning at Sandhurst.

For anybody wondering why a Lieutenant General outranks a Major General when a Major outranks a Lieutenant, it goes back to the old system where the three highest ranked officers in a regiment were the Colonel, Lieutenant-Colonel and Sergeant Major (sergeant in its original medieval meaning of a servant to a knight). General Officer ranks took after these, so Colonel General, etc before the slimming down of titles to the general ranks we know today.

Tim Franklin | 10949 comments Fishy_Jim wrote: "Clarification request for Tim's Football team nickname theme - can we use the singular as well as the plural, e.g. Gunner as well as Gunners?"

I was going to mention that. As most nicknames are plural I would obviously prefer that in the title/artist name, but if you get really stuck then use a singular. A 'cheat' might be if a title used an apostrophe (as in eg, the Pink Floyd song 'The Gunner's Dream') you could use that and drop the apostrophe for the purpose.

theDuke | 6491 comments Just remembered that one i left floating, so will slip that one behind Helen's latest nom...and i've got another to slip in somewhere else too!

Also: adding a link for my upcoming theme, a list of moon names, these being of our solar system, but any others are exceptable, bar earth's own! I'll see if can find a list of fictional ones too:

Theme 414 - Keep Young and Beautiful - Song titles with young, beautiful or both. - Jemma

theDuke | 6491 comments A head's up on my forthcoming theme "Moon Choons" - found this link containing all of our solar system's moons:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of... .

Couldn't really find much on fictional ones...and one might need to search further moons names outside of our solar system...but hopefully this'll help. BTW: i did have a couple of noms lined up for this, but wouldn't you know it....i've forgotten what they were! Earth's moon isn't permitted, so no Moon or The Moon, but you can go with lyrics or title. So, yeah....good luck with that!
