It's taken me a week now, and I'm just SO glad now that I started here before my beloved Amazon Forums locked down, as it's been a rather emotional day for me seeing them frozen in time and left waiting to be wiped out by some Computer Programmer.

And I feel so sorry for all those out there who never even knew about the Amazon Forums or ever got to play around on them, making friends, and just having a good time - they will never know now that they all got to miss out on somewhere that was just so special ;o<

It's spices in a souk. The pictures are a bit small to make out details, aren't they?

I preferred tech's guess, anyway.

Just got back from abroad, managed to sign up. It's a bit like being on another planet, expect to stumble around for a while, and have just pledged myself to read some books, but first I have to apease Mrs Grimmy by helping to unpack

Don't forget now? - do not to mix your White Wash with your Coloured Wash! ;o>

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 600 comments If you do it will end up being a pink wash. And not a nice pink either... I've been there.... Red shirt in with a favourite t-shirt, Not a good idea.

Tom (Howard) | 5 comments So Amazon created a new forum. It's much different than before and lumps all music together, but it may serve. I created a listening thread for CM.

Give it a try.

Sorry, not trying to take away from this site... just trying to give the forum refugees some options.

Its my good fortune to have been banned from operating the washing machine for several years, ever since an unfortunate incident with a hot wash and a favourite woolly

Interesting you can sign in on a previously banned account. It seems Zon have wiped the slate clean.
How nice of them.

Craig White | 6727 comments hi tom, mibbe an option for some, but i ain't going back, (even changed my amazon profile back to my real name), as i believe we were treated like shight, and discarded without thought or consideration! so they can go and keech! :) 's much nicer here anyhoo, nobody marks down your comments or spite bombs your reviews with negative votes! so far! :)

message 370: by Serial (new)

Serial Sock Trumpet (serialsocktrumpet) | 1998 comments What difference does it make really?

This is no more difficult to use than the amazon site, and mercifully lacks the voting button.
Zon doesn't deserve our participation after the fkd up way they've closed the forums, with nil customer care.

message 371: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I thought that you were not allowed to set up any Threads like that on the new Amazon.com Forums - they are supposed to be purely Q&A only with just occasional chat also permitted as well and were set up to be all about the Devices that Amazon sell?

I heard that several people had already tried to do it but that every time they did Amazon very soon turned up and deleted it?

message 372: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1370 comments In the dim and distant when amazon was just beginning, they gave small gifts to customers - post it notes, coffee mugs etc. Now they're successful, they can't even be bothered with politeness...

It's probably a glitch in the System as it shuts down but give it a go and see if it works for you too!

Even more weirdly, "Hard..." has reappeared at the top of the list of threads on the pop forum, with two of our friends posting last messages.

The Review Forum is running again. My guess is a glitch, and no one was around to work on it.

Hi, Grach, I've found you! Just followed the snail slime trail and it led here.

I tried using my same monika as on Amazon, but assume they didn't want to include my surname, so 'P' I have become! It must be the shortest ever user name on Goodreads!

You have gone above and beyond, Suzy! Yup, you got it. Granny is our resident US of A-er, but contributing to a UK Amazon forum. Once upon a way back there were many regulars on the HP site but we were left with a resilient 4. Think all should eventually find their way here as we would otherwise miss each other's 'company'.

Think the happy, care-free mood on here is great so far.

Me, I also was a regular on the Fiction Forum and recognise many names.

Like others, I have been tempted to stay with 'the Auld Place' right to the bitter end to see what 'The Rainforest Postmaster General' is actually gonna do with all those fora - leave them as 'read only' or will he/she incinerate them in a virtual conflagration on Bonfire Night? Thought it was only me at first he/she had it in for when I was renamed 'A. Customer'. After what they have gone and done, I wonder how many of the 'A. Customers' will remain so?

Ah, shame. 10 years of fun posting and for them to just disappear into the ether shows a lack of customer care. Would love to know their reasons for closing all Fora down.

In my Profile I put my whole Username only into the First Name Box and left the rest blank then also put it again into the Display Name Box as well ... nothing else and it still accepted me! - LOL! ;o>

Someone said something about this struggling with their name on here before? And so I wondered if adding or taking away spaces or adding or leaving out punctuation made a difference - or putting your entire Username into the First Name Box was the answer instead?

Guess I'll just have to experiment as I go along.

message 389: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I have a feeling that giving a Surname might be what causes a Name to play up? Try your Amazon Username in it's entirety in the First Name Box and empty all the other Boxes - then put it in again as your Display Name and see if it also works just like mine did for me? ;o>

message 390: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments Will do, Suzy.

Heads up, all. Amazon is currently allowing us back in to the fora. Time for your final farewells - although there is no way of knowing how long this will be possible for - after all it is already Friday 13th...

Do feel free to continue to post wherever else you wish on here but I have also just set up a new Group Home Thread for you all under 'General' in Group Discussions.

It is titled ... "Don't Kill Snails with Salt 4 ... and Beyond ..." ... but I can easily change that for you to anything else that you might prefer ;o>

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Gordon, as our Moderator has the ability to create new Forum folders on here - and so hopefully tomorrow he will set up a "Don't Kill Snails with Salt Forum" and move your Thread into it so that you will always easily be able to find it on here ;o>

I would use it every time I spurted my coffee over the keyboard when a particularly droll comment was made (looking at you tech!).

There's one in Shrewsbury market hall. It smells delicious but I always make the mistake of going to the market immediately after breakfast, so I've never tried any of the street fare. I don't think they have crickets, or dogs, or even goats.

In fact, come to think of it, I don't think I've eaten curried goat since Notting Hill Carnival 1986. I didn't even find it in Kuala Lumpur, although I do have a precious memory of wandering into a side street in Kowloon and finding a restaurant advertising its house speciality: roast pork tendon.
