Blastronaut | 1061 comments This is probably gonna be a fruitless exercise, but...anyone watch footie last night? Anyone think the Bulgaria manager - Balakov (possibly a relation to that famous chap with three testicles, first name Oodyanikka) - was a tad outta line? "I didn't hear any racist noises/chanting" - Whaaat?? Absolutely EVERYBODY ELSE did!!
And then he more-or-less went on to blame England, like "It never happened before, only when England's involved" - Utter plonker.
Now I guess UEFA's gonna fine the Bulgarian Fed with a slapped ass, Ten Bob, a tea cosy and a Ten-Pence-Mix.

Sera69 | 1922 comments Disgusting blah blah blah
No place for it blah blah blah
Could have walked off blah blah blah
Make an example blah blah blah
Tick box statements blah blah blah

Can we go back to our feeding troughs?

Props to the Bulgarian captain who seemed genuinely angry at his fans.

Craig White | 6727 comments i watched enough to get the impression of things. it was vile, and at least the authorities marched the nazis out of the stadium - but why were they not arrested? a hate crime on the street would merit this, so why not?
i have to credit the england players (ffs, did i actually say that? hate crime! :)) with going (only) some of the way to combatting this. they were obviously conflicted by wanting to walk (which imo they should have done) but also wanting to finish and win the game, which is their job!
yeah, the bulgarian skipper went over and above, but afterwards the manager did not help his shameful cause by saying that he didn't even notive he wasn't in the dressing room at half time. ffs, he's the captain! who did you talk to?
as it is, credit must be given (again?) to the england players for at least going part way and serving notice on the issue.

you're absolutely right about the punishment, blastro, the football authorities need to start hardlining and banning teams from competion.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments What can ya do with backward societies like this? Ok 'society' might be a tad strong and maybe the majority of the fans are ok but it don't look good when their own representatives are imbeciles. I mean before the match the Bulgarian FA was saying something along the lines that they took it as an insult because the English set-up were talking about, and expecting, exactly that kinda crap that went on last night. Like "How dare you accuse us of racism!" - with that sort of utter ignorance and refusal to take any responsibility... what can ya do?
Maybe Chinese 'Education' establishments would do the trick?? : )
It's all ok UEFA putting up banners and 'protocols' in place but they really need to come through this time and back it all up for a change.

Yep, well done to the players for handling it the way they did (and nobody woulda blamed em if they had walked) and respect to the Bulgarian captain who, sadly but bravely, cut a lone figure out there trying to get through to his fans.

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Both Shrewsbury. Hallowe'en funfair in The Quarry and a picturesque house in Porthill across the seriously flooded river.

nocheese | 6824 comments Out of idle curiosity, I just had a look at the list of the 132 members of Amazon Exiles. Most of us are silent, but I was fascinated to see that the two most garrulous members are our librarians. Lez has clocked up 5585 comments since our inception, but Val is the runaway winner with 7945 contributions.

Gordon should banish those that haven't made any comments! We don't want any lurkers here ;-)

Sorry nocheese, I've not heard from our lovely suzy since the end of Dec. I'm sure some of the others have been in touch since. Hopefully she'll return when she's ready, the forum is much quieter without her.

This last year I've been coping with a personal disaster and it's been a help to dip in and read your comments and stories. I hope to return some time - particularly if our treasure Suzy can make it back.

Hope I can stay, please? :0)

message 1677: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments of course you can, don't need to ask! recent and past personal experiences need a little distraction from time to time - this has aleviated a number of issues i've had/am having.

I haven't heard a thing from her either since last year, and she's yet to post on the other group i set up last year too. I'm beginning to think we've seen the last of her sadly. :(

PS: just had a look at members post counts..i'm glad to see i'm 9th, with 4k+ post and counting....but surprised to see some regulars like Foe, has so far amounted just over 1k posts. Doesn't feel right..i swear he's posted more than that, surely?! Even Sera hasn't reached the milestone 1k post count yet!

I guess it's quality not quantity that counts.......right?! :)

Me? I spout my usual drivel as and when i feel like it......but i do run Themes as well.....which is where most of my drivel ends up on anyhoo! :)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Here's summat J found on FB. Gave me a giggle...

A suspected Covid-19 male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A young student female nurse appears and gives him a partial sponge bath.
"Nurse,"' he mumbles from behind the mask, "are my testicles black?"
Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, "I don't know, Sir. I'm only here to wash your upper body and feet."
He struggles to ask again, "Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?"
Concerned that he might elevate his blood pressure and heart rate from worrying about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and
pulls back the covers.
She raises his gown, holds his manhood in one hand and his testicles gently in the other.
She looks very closely and says, "There's nothing wrong with them, Sir. They look fine."
The man slowly pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her, and says very slowly,
"Thank you very much. That was wonderful. Now listen very,
very, closely:
"Are - my - test - results - back?"

message 1694: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Apr 08, 2020 02:32PM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Just wanted to share this Facebook Post after all of the Reports that have been coming out over the last few days about Pets and the Covid Virus. It was posted up by 'The Behavioural Referrals Veterinary Practice' who are based in Chester in Cheshire ...

"This morning there has been an irresponsible piece of journalism on the BBC news site about keeping cats indoors which may have caused alarm and distress to many cat owners.

This piece has misquoted the president of the British Veterinary Association. The advice that has been given for cat owners in relation to COVID-19 is as follows:

“We are not advising that all cats are kept indoors. Only cats from infected households or where their owners are self-isolating, and only if the cat is happy to be kept indoors. Some cats cannot stay indoors due to stress-related medical reasons’ (BVA, 080420)

There have been a few reports of dogs and cats (and a Tiger!) being infected with COVID-19 virus. However, all these animals had been in contact with a person with COVID-19. Multiple international organisations (including the UK government, OIE, WHO, RCVS, BVA, WSAVA) report that there is no evidence that suggests animals are involved in the spread of disease.

The only advice from the Government regarding cats remains the same and is as follows: You should wash your hands before and after any contact with your cat.

The expert opinion from all sources is that, touching the fur of an animal that has been in contact with an infected person could in rare cases lead to transfer of the virus. This would be the same process of transmission as touching a surface that has been touched by an infected person. Nevertheless, the consistent advice is to wash hands in soap and water for 20 seconds before and after handling animals or their food.

Fake news is extremely dangerous especially at this time.

If you have any questions or concerns about your pets please phone your veterinary practice (Do not go to the practice in person as they will be following guidelines regarding social distancing at this time)"

... this was then followed by the posting up of the BVA Statement ...
