TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments On thinking about it I do have a concern. That is that by keeping neutral and polite we have avoided attracting unnecessarily argumentative members so far.

If we started using political and religious language, it would likely show up in online searches and we might attract new members whose sole purpose is to make controversial statements.

On balance then I might try to set something up on a different site somewhere - perhaps a moderated one. If I do I'll let anyone who's interested know. Don't hold your breath though!

I didn't know that was a thing! Or the ladies one...what next? International babies day? Oh purlease! *rolls eyes*

There's already a day for us blokes anyway...it's called father's day. Which pretty much covers every male on the planet, bar the orphaned boys though..poor things!

TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments Thanks suzy! - I wasn't aware of it. Google certainly didn't honour it with one of their doodles although they do honour International Women's Day.

TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments Can anyone remember what the old Amazon forums were called?

Here's my vague recollection. I've hidden it so as not to influence anyone's memory.

(view spoiler)

Also, has anyone got a note of the old URL?

message 1479: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Yes they were called that ;o>

I'm not sure what you mean by the old URL though? - because if you click on a once tracked Thread Link you only get this Page coming up instead ...

Don’t know about the url, I first found them by scrolling down from a CD page. I then just kept them in my favourites and never used a url.

TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments Hmm.. that's interesting. I can't remember the names of the different forums/threads.

For example: Do you have a link (even if dead) to The neverending story on there (if that's what it was called in those days).

message 1482: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Weren't the Discussion 'Boards' those strange Pages you could find on Google of collected Posts on each Forum - the ones that gave Data on who had contributed, who the main contributors were, and how many Posts each contributor had posted up?

I never understood quite what those Pages were all about?

message 1483: by TwoddleBungler (last edited Nov 29, 2018 02:29PM) (new)

TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments I don't know. I've got a very poor memory. Always have had since a child!

Can you maybe find the URL by examining your favourites? Or have they been deleted?

TB, they are all dead Links, aren't they? - the Forums have not just been shut-down, they have been wiped out completely just like they never even existed in the first place.

You could still see Links to them on Google for a couple of months after their closure but clicking on them only got you nowhere because Forums were gone - and even those old Search Links have vanished from Google now.

Lez | 7490 comments I’m still furious about the total deletion of everything, what possible reason could they have? If we’d known sooner we could have copied favourite bits. A couple of posters on the American site did manage to copy some posts from a lovely bloke who died.

TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments I'm trying to dig around to see if they are still hiding somewhere. That's why I need some old URLs: Even out-of-date ones that no longer lead anywhere.

I don't have 'em myself because I had to get a new computer.

No guarantee of success but you never know.

message 1489: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Nov 29, 2018 03:25PM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I spent the last week screen-saving odd Thread Pages here and there of some of the conversations I had with some of my favourite Forum friends ;o>

The silly thing is though, that I can't bear to read them now because I always end up getting so over-emotional and in tears! ... I miss the Forums so much - they were such wonderful Playgrounds to race around and to get to 'play' such delightfully daft games in ;o<

Well, I've looked at a screen-shot I have of several Pages of a Thread where I first met someone I was once great friends with on the Forums back in 2012 and unfortunately the URL tails off into " ... " and so all I have to give you is this ...

https: // www.amazon.co.uk / forum/cooking/ ref=cm_cd_pg_pg3?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=FxU58WR ...

(I've had to put gaps into it to make all that I have of the URL show up on this Page rather than an abbreviated Link to it)

message 1491: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Something I’ve tried a few times is searching for whole extracts I can remember from some of the threads but to no avail.

Lez | 7490 comments I remembered Huck posted this link on the Morty Chalfont thread a while back. It did work for a week but now has an error message:

Don’t know how he retrieved it.

message 1493: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Nov 29, 2018 04:02PM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I think that he probably transferred it in the last week of the Forums just before they shut-down, Lez. Everyone was trying to screen-save and set up files on their Laptops for bits and pieces of Forum Thread Pages that mattered to them if they could ;o>

If you haven't saved Huck's Link to the File I can try to Email it as an Attachment to you if you want?

The truth is, Lez, that the discussions didn't matter to Amazon at all and once they saw a way to save a few pennies and a little effort, there was no reason to bother.
As for deleting everything, I can't believe that there was any great gain to be had by it. But if you don't care about something, why make concessions to its users? Amazon is by now too big to care about us in that way, or even to imagine that it should.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I've just sent you the File as an Email Attachment, Lez Lee.

I hope it turns out to be compatible with your iPad ;o>

Thanks to Everyone for all the good company today. I've spent hours and hours online looking at (and dithering over) whether I should think about getting some CBD Oil for our darling Tia and getting myself so terribly upset about it.

All the Thread conversations have been such a very welcome and uplifting distraction from feeling so overwhelmed and heartbroken ... bless you all ... x x x ;o>

TwoddleBungler | 4920 comments Well I've made some progress with help from HB finding an old link.

Have a look at this

(EDIT Grrr... I was experimenting and mucked the following up. I'll get it sorted.)

Getting this required drawing a pentagram and dancing around my living room muttering incantations.

No guarantees at all but if you want me to look for something in particular, I will try.

Or you may be able to find it yourself by clicking on links on that page I found.
