Gordon: the moderators on Talk Classical have asked posters not to post lyrics as they are worried about copyright problems. I've always wondered about this with our 'Follow The Lyric' thread. Could we be in trouble?
I very much doubt it. The web sites that most of us copy them from won't have copyright authorization, either. And we're not publishing them - Amazon (owner of Goodreads) is - or profiting from their reproduction. If a copyright owner asks us to take their lyrics down and we don't, then we'd be in trouble.Youtube doesn't get sued for every music video someone posts there. But if it failed to take down a video after a request from the copyright owner, it would be liable to be sued.
That's the conclusion that I came to as well, Gordon, whenever this particular issue was being discussed across the various Amazon Forums ;o>The Lyrics we share with each other are to be found all over the Internet - shared out on various Search Engines, Public Access Forums, Personal Blogs, and can also often be found on some Bands own official websites and on their dedicated fan-base websites as well.
H, I'm an Amazon discussion groups exile. They seem to have closed all the discussion groups on there now. I'm new to Goodreads discussions and admit that I haven't really got the hang of it as yet, but hopefully I will eventually!
Hiyah Lep ;o>Yes, Amazon suddenly announced the imminent closure of the Amazon.com Forums just over two weeks before they shut them down. We, in the UK, had been expecting as much as they had been shutting down various functions on our Forums for several months and had anticipated that the Amazon.co.uk Forums would soon be shut-down as well.
Barely a week later we also had the closure announcements posted up all over our Forum Threads and the Forums were sadly wiped out in mid October of last year - while many of us were still continuing to keep on posting on them right up until the very last minute ;o<
This Group Forum was set up by one of the Amazon UK Music Forum members so that we could transfer our favourite and most active Threads over on to it before they vanished forever. And some of us also raced around the rest of the various Amazon Forums posting up Goodreads links so that anyone who was interested could come and join us on here as well.
It wasn't exactly an easy transition for everyone - the Goodreads Website is quite different to Amazon, isn't it? - and it certainly took some getting use to it for many of us. The good news though is that it does suddenly start to make sense and gets so much easier with a little time and perseverance - and it does have upsides to it too? - as we can also post up Pictures on here on our Profiles and on the Threads as well ;o>
Welcome to the Forum ... x x x

There's no real hard and fast rules, more of a general guideline that we (very) loosely follow. Tongues are mostly very much in cheek and any ribbing is good humoured. Pull up a chair and enjoy!
I hope that you find something of interest to you on here, Lep ;o>We obviously have much more of an emphasis on Music than we do on Books on here as we wanted to keep the very best bits of our beloved Amazon Music Forums going. However we do also have general Chat on a few Threads, a Games Section to dip in and out of, and also some Sport too.
Hi Lep, nice to see you. Most of us have 'known' each other a few years and in some cases met in the outside world, so forgive us if there are lots of in-jokes!
And if you've a mind to start your own discussions there are always some helpful hands to give you instructions.

I'm mainly books really, as I didn't contribute to the Amazon Music Forum. That doesn't mean, however, that I don't like music. I'm fairly heavily into Blues of all descriptions. I also like Country Rock e.g. The Eagles, whom my husband and I managed to see in concert a few years back; Rock and some Classical. Managed to get, very expensive, tickets to see Jeff Lynn's ELO in concert in October.
You honestly don't have to be into any Music at all - as the Games Section is quite active on here - it just helps to have an interest in Music if you want to join in with us on any of the Music Threads, that's all.Everyone is always welcome on here - to bob in and out whenever they feel like it and to get whatever they want out of being on here ;o>
Got home around 5:30, vaguely noticing music coming from somewhere. Thought it was one of the occasional fake festivals in The Quarry (line-ups of tribute bands). It didn't strike me as odd that there would be a Midge Ure tribute band. Then after a segué from Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart into Tainted Love I realized that the person performing at the moment is actually Marc Almond and the event is "Let's Rock Shrewsbury: 10 Years of Retro".And here's the big news...
Tech, are you there...?
The next act on stage, topping the bill, is the one - the only - the incomparable...

I wonder why tech just got on the next Train down to Shrewsbury with a very big Rock in his Hand? ;o>
Is it to batter Ali Campbell round the head with, do you think? No matter what he says though, I bet our Techster loves a very large glass of Red Red Wine!
the poor people of shrewsbury........they didn't deserve that! ub40 live? similar effect to drinking a pint of novichok! actually, collette, i enjoy any kind of wine as much as i do ub40! and as with ub40, it gives me dreadful headaches! :)
oh, and hi lep, i'm the one who collects the membership fees. a cheque will do, although i prefer cash stuffed into brown envelopes! 5 years fees in advance is the usual, but seeing you're new i'll take 10! :)

Lep wrote: "H, I'm an Amazon discussion groups exile. They seem to have closed all the discussion groups on there now. I'm new to Goodreads discussions and admit that I haven't really got the hang of it as yet..."Hi Lep,
We're all reasonably used to Goodreads now since moving over here late last year. We apparently have 102 members but I suspect less than half that number are regular posters. Everyone here is really friendly and will be happy to give you a hand if you need help posting pictures etc. As the others have said, most of us came together through our music interests - which are pretty diverse. Derek and I are probably the only Eagles fans on here and I may be the only Jeff Lynne/ELO one, but we do welcome diversity (pay no heed to tech!)
You can see the full gamut of our interests at:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
They do include one book thread, films, TV shows, sport, recipes, etc. I hope you find something to interest you and that you stop by for a chat whenever it suits. Welcome to our motley crew!
Hello Lep..welcome aboard!And nup.. Val..me is a ELO fan too! :) Don't mind Eagles either..if they're well cooked! :)
Et moi aussi, but more of an Eagles fan myself, believe me I have worse sins in my collection though it is fairly eclectic. Prefer ELO's earlier stuff with Roy Wood, love Wizard and the Move. Don't read much these days, never seem to find the time, maybe I should make more effort.
suzysunshine7 wrote: "Awww, that's a pretty picture, Gordon ... anyone else fancy a Picnic? ;o>"I'll make some egg sandwiches and warm lemonade.
Lovely pic. Looks like Barra in May, when the smell is just glorious too. Unless you have hay fever of course.
I was just waiting to see if someone would decide to bring up that they suffer from Hayfever - however it is most definitely a Pollen-Free picture ;o>
I have a huge Jar of Pickled Onions - it isn't a Picnic without some Cheese, Pickled Onions & Crisp Butties! ;o>
Blimey, you lot, watch out for the flowers, you'll crush them under your stampeding, picnic-obsessed feet.
Martin wrote: "Et moi aussi, but more of an Eagles fan myself, believe me I have worse sins in my collection though it is fairly eclectic. Back in the day I liked Cream, Bread, The Band, ZZ Top, Simon and Garfunkel, the Doobie Brothers and many others. However, I'm more into Blues than anything else.

I've always hated picnics. You have to prepare it all at home, pack it up, cart it with you to wherever, find somewhere to sit out of the wind then unpack it all. You then have to fend off the flies, wasps and midges, during which exercise you'll probably drop half a sarnie in the nearby sheep-shit and your paper cup of coffee will blow away.
Having survived all this you then have to pack away all the dirty stuff, paper towels, bits of tomato, orange peel etc.
Someone will want to wee.
Time to go home after a grand day out.
