That's always the hunting/shooting industry's response to everything, isn't it? They artificially manipulate the landscape to increase the numbers of red grouse and then complain because their own actions increase the population of mountain hares. They also (illegally) poison peregrine falcons but won't take responsibility for the resulting increase in the rabbit population.
I shall take a good guess at what it's all about ... (please don't tell me anyone - because I am just far too sensitive for these kinds of things and I simply can't cope with it) ... and I have also signed too.
Signed. Yet another case of human beings behaving in a totally arrogant way towards the other inhabitants of the planet, whether on land or sea, sentient or not. (Don't get me started on Sheffields tree cull...)

They did actually cull quite a few of the huge beech and sycamore trees in our road back in the ‘80s because the roots were forcing up the pavements very close to the houses and damaging the foundations. No such excuse now, just straightforward vandalism.

A really big "thank you" to everyone who took time to read my post and the information provided. Hopefully they will get many more people to add their names to the letter over the next month. There is loads of moorland around our village so I will let the mountain hares know how lovely you all are. 😃
although i'm a godless heathen with discordian leanings (not to mention a slight case of Rastafarian envy), suzy, a very happy easter to you and yours! :)

Signed! I've never seen a hare..white or otherwise! So won't support the mass killing of them, all in the name sport, business & on dubious 'health protection' grounds.
Blastronaut Mk2 wrote: "A bit late to the party (as is my wont) but yeah, good going Helen. Signed!"Thanks Blastro. I believe there is a small mountain hare population in the Peak District. Have you seen any when you've been up there?
theDuke wrote: "Signed! I've never seen a hare..white or otherwise!....."Duke, when your eyes are better you need to get out European/brown hare spotting! Farmland is the best place, don't know if you have much round you?
Back from France and signed. Never seen a mountain hare but I've seen brown hares locally and in Norfolk. Rig thinks they're very exciting, much better than rabbits. Thankfully he's never seen one when he's been off the lead!
Nah Helen, at least I don't think so but ya know what me memory's like eh? Seen em on TV for sure, reckon they featured on Beeb 2 a week-or-two ago alongside Ptarmigan (Oooh don't I feel clever for spelling that correctly!) and such. I despise any kind of animal cruelty so I'm with ya all the way on this un.
On the few occasions I’ve been in graveyards I’ve usually seen a hare or two. Don’t know if this is a recognised fact?We often saw them in Northumberland when we used to drive up from Sheffield. Never seen a mountain one though.

It's all fields around me here...but don't think they are many hares where I am...maybe up on the moors in the Preseli mountains, mibbe. I've got plenty of wild bunnies though! :)
This year fresh kittens will be out soon...probably back in our garden, to dine on the best turf in the area!

Brown hares usually prefer open ground but they obviously couldn't resist the extra delicious, nutritious vegetation growing on the ultra fertile graveyard soil ;-)
There is also a small number of mountain hares in Northumberland (Cheviots).
i know of a man who was involved in mountain hares - he got a lifetime ban from the petting zoo! :) (ooh, very poor!)

Some years ago the Queen Mother was being given the grand tour of London Zoo to commemorate its 250th anniversary. In one enclosure were some porcupines among the exhibits. " Oh, what extrordinary creatures!", exclaimed the QM.Yes m'am, indeed." replied the zookeeper, "The North American Porcupine, a member of the rodent family. Their pricks grow up to nine inches in length."
"My goodness!", exclaimed the QM, "How extrordinary. "
There was a stunned moment of silence followed by the zookeeper being hastily drawn to oneside and subjected to a hastily whispered admonishment from his superior. Hastily he turned to the QM and spoke, "I apologise sincerely m'am, I meant it's spines are about nine inches," holding out his hand with the thumb and forefinger around an inch or so apart, "their pricks are only that big!"
😀Time for a favourite anecdote, in case you missed it first time:
Phlebotomist taking blood from the ladies in the hysterectomy ward :
“You’ll just feel a little prick”
Patients:
“We should be so lucky”
Michael Jackson and Bubbles discussing what film to rent out for the night...B - "So what's it gonna be then?"
MJ - "Let's get Aladdin"
B - "Aren't you in enough trouble already!?"

It must be you - mine's fine :)
That said, Apples has been having problems posting over on DND, taking two or three attempts to post.

I think that, as you are currently top of my Notifications, Grizzlygrump, then I'm going to blame you - LOL!!! ;o>
You don't click on the little Bell to see if anyone has posted on the Threads you have used since you were last on then, Lez Lee?Ahhh, maybe it is just me then?
It is also showing up under 'My Group Discussions' for me as well.

Same here, Lez.
I've got the main discussions page bookmarked and always left open on a tab - more or less the same set up I had for the old Amazon discussions.
When I click on the page, I just hit refresh to see the number of new posts displayed next to each thread. That's as complicated as I need things to be :)

Ahhh, perhaps I should do that instead then? It looks like I've probably been doing all this the wrong way around since I started on Goodreads? - but that's what I thought those Buttons on the Goodreads Toolbar across the top of the page were there for?

No, I just go straight to the group heading in my favourites and see the red ‘New Posts’.

Anyway, it's just asking you all to have a look at these links and then to sign the letter/petition if you think this is something you can support. I don't think you need to be a resident of Scotland to add your name. It's a letter to the Scottish Government asking them to help prevent the mass culling of mountain hares on grouse moors. Please take a look at these links when you have time -
