Some people just react badly to general anaesthetics. It is undoubtedly better than not having an anaesthetic but it's pretty unpleasant nonetheless.

In one of my past lives I had to attend a lot of bronchoscopies to collect airway biopsies for a research project. This procedure is done under local anaesthetic but patients/volunteers are offered a sedative if they want it: it relaxes them a bit but it also makes it impossible for them to remember the experience afterwards, which I think is its major benefit. On one occasion the volunteer, who was a nurse, said she had had midazolam before and knew what effect it had on her. She therefore requested that if she were to ask for sex after the midzolam injection we should politely decline.

message 866: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I seem to be reasonably okay with the IV but not with the Gas part of the Anaesthetic? - and so I have to have my Anaesthetic specially adapted to being as much by IV as is possible which has helped to make a huge difference in my last two Ops.

I don't know why it is, but both my Mum and me suffer from breathing difficulties and we also fail to come round again for hours afterwards no matter what we are given to reverse the effects, plus our Oxygen levels persist in staying dangerously low as well.

Then it can actually take us weeks to really get with it again, for the 'spaced out' feeling to completely pass - and I have to be given massive doses of Anti-Sickness medication with my Anaesthetic or else I am continually sick from almost the minute that I do finally come round and it goes on and on for days afterwards ;o<

All in all, it is not an easy decision at all in agreeing to have any kind of Surgery unless it is under a Local Anaesthetic - and even a Local can sometimes have a very weird and unpleasant effect on me as well.

I do tend to giggle a lot when I come round and tell everyone just how lovely they are but as far as I know I have never asked anyone for sex?! ... yet! - LOL!!! ;o>

message 887: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I left a few Seasons Greetings messages for old Forum friends on some of their Reviews and, I must admit, I was more than just a little disappointed not to have got any messages back from any of them in the same way like I usually do ;o<

I have often used this particular way to catch up with folk who rarely ever posted on the old Forums anymore and it had always worked before now in continuing to still make contact with them.

However, I have just gone back to my Amazon profile and tried out sending myself a few messages by using my Mum's Amazon Account and have discovered that not one has been forwarded on to me? And so I am now thinking that the Tracked Reviews links have sadly also been shut down as well as the Forums?

It would certainly seem to explain why I can no longer seem to be able to catch up with anyone that I used to know and to talk regularly to in this way on Amazon anymore anyway ;o<

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 600 comments I read somewhere that reviewers are no longer getting notified that there are messages on their reviews. So something has been shut down.

I have been contacting Amazon about the new Profile format, and I’ll bet you can guess how many meaningful responses I’ve received. I didn’t know about comments notifications being shut off, though. I got an Amazon email two or three weeks ago notifying me of a comment, but nothing since then.

Here’s my latest submission:

Since my last email to you I have no new updates, but my reviewer ranking has deteriorated by almost 2000 points. That’s why I’m asking that you restore my Amazon profile to a more user-friendly format.

I used to enjoy reviewing. Because I invariably consult other customers’ reviews before I purchase a product, I felt as though I provided a service, however small, by chronicling my own findings. But with the new Profile format, I am unable to access feedback for my reviews. They’re just there, in a long, long list, presented in the order written. There is no means of searching the list or of paging through it, and no indication of whether or not another customer found a review helpful or left a comment. I do not understand why Amazon is concealing my own information from me. Please reverse the format change.

I’m done reviewing if nothing changes. And that’s very sad. Doesn’t AuntieA realize that customer reviews are a significant part of her retail success? She ought to be coddling us, not dissing us.

message 890: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It isn't on, is it? After all, it isn't just about not being able to use the Product Reviews to contact friends anymore.

If we can no longer get any Notifications of any other Customers who might use our Reviews to ask us questions then we can no longer respond to them either - and yet, bizarrely, Amazon have still left the Comment Boxes up as a function on our Reviews?

Whenever I venture on Amazon these days it just feels like such an empty and a lonely place to be without the ability to connect up or to communicate with anyone else on there anymore. It feels so lifeless and inactive compared to how it once was for all of us who used the Forums and created a sense of community on there ;o<

You have absolutely nailed it. I may be a rat in a maze, but I’m not a dumb one. If I don’t receive positive feedback I won’t perform.

message 892: by Sera69 (new)

Sera69 | 1922 comments The new profile pages are utterly useless, both for reviewers and customers. It really has been one long slide since listmanias disappeared. But they killed IMDb, they killed Amazon, 'community' is not the Bezos way. Goodreads better damn well watch it's back...

message 893: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Amazon wanted us to come over to Goodreads - they put this Website forward as an alternative when they announced that the Amazon Forums were closing down ... and yet I can't get to leave any trackable messages for old Forum friends on their Profile Reviews telling them where we now are on here ;o<

Craig White | 6727 comments "lifeless and inactive" like me! :)

actually, i've tried thru' message facility on amazon reviews to contact a couple of ex-regulars, but have heard nothing back, in fact, come to think of it, ive not had any comments for quite some time - but yes, you used to get an email if anyone left a comment, usually something like "brilliant review", "best review i ever read", "this man is truly the king of reviewers", and stuff like that! :)

theDuke | 6492 comments Ive deleted everything off my Zon profile page..can't see any really any point in leaving my old reviews up..or personal details...as I haven't been on Zon since the forums closed down. I've not bought anything from Zon in over a year now.....pity they chose to do what they did..but hey ho..not all changes results in progress.

One thing that does annoy me though....I was never a prolific reviewer...having only submitted approx. 40 odd reviews on there in total....and only ever had 100 or so pos points....but I keep getting requests from marketplace sellers asking me to do a review for a product I have no intentation of buying!

Fish shaped key ring fobs and other daft pointless tat! Why do I get this crap in my inbox, if Zon doesn't care about reviews or reviewers anymore?

message 897: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments innaresting. i only get requests to review things mrs tech and i have bought from sellers, and very rarely oblige, unless it's music or literature, or something that might amuse me, likes of keech bags or cuddly chewbaccas!

Well, I need to buy stuff from Amazon like huge bags of Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Dog Food because they are currently being very competitive on their prices and often working out to be the cheapest around. And, despite everything else, they are still reliable enough on their Deliveries for me to stick with them. I cannot afford to spend more elsewhere and on less familiar and potentially unreliable sites and so I still prefer to stick to Amazon and eBay for the most part.

However, I too, was absolutely inundated with Spam Mail (all entirely from Chinese Sellers on Amazon) in the weeks after the Forums shut down and the flow of them has only just dwindled recently to around one a week. And all of them like you say, Duke, were/are for utterly pointless and useless pieces of plastic tat that I would never even think of ever wanting to buy as well.

I can't help but get to thinking that now that there is nowhere to be able to post up complaints about things like this, in front of so many other Customers, that some Sellers have decided to just go for it on breaking the once strict Amazon's Guidelines over not contacting Amazon Customers directly and hustling for business like this?

To my mind, Amazon have chosen to systematically break down and wreck their own Website and they have annoyed and also alienated, at the very least several thousands of, regular and loyal Customers just over this last year alone - and I'm sure it has cost them dearly to do so despite it seeming to be financial decisions that are behind all of these recent moves and developments?

I just find it so sad these days that you so often find and then get to trust and to rely on something that really does work for you - and then suddenly ... BAM! ... everything goes and changes and it is almost always for the worse as well.

nocheese | 6824 comments I am totally pissed off with Amazon. As well as all this nonsense with the discussion boards, they have also:

1. Closed down 'Lovefilm by Post' , hoping to force everyone to subscribe to Amazon Prime Direct Streaming. Happily, I've found another DVD by post service called 'Cinema Paradiso', which is a lot more user friendly than Lovefilm ever was.

2. Bought over Whole Foods Markets, then promptly closed down the only Scottish branch, which happened to be practically on my doorstep.

I do not like Amazon.
