Allison Did you know that after you behead someone they still live for eight more seconds? And in some ancient empire, after a beheading, they would always hold the head up to the body so the dead person would see their body and freak out.

But you can't talk because your vocal cords have been severed.

Allison And a quarter rest looks like a squirrel if you draw the other half.

Identical twins tend to learn to speak at a slower rate than single-born children.

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't commented here in ages so I'll make up for it mwahahaha.
Cats use their whiskers to check whether or not they'll fit through a tight space.

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

Peanuts aren't nuts. They're legumes.

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

The phrase 'quarantine' comes from the Italian word for 'forty' because back in the Middle Ages ships in Italy were forced to wait offshore for 40 days before they were allowed to land, in order to help prevent the spread of the Plague.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool. Italian is the most popular ethnic food in America. Pizza, spaghetti...

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

Pepperoni is an American food. There's no sausage called pepperoni in Italy.

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

(whoever invented pepperoni probably just wanted to make it sound exotic.)

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah...Are hotdogs American? Weirdest question of the year

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

Apparently the origin of hotdogs is in dispute. (I googled it and there were a bunch of different answers.)

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

Interesting...

message 70: by Allison (new)

Allison My History teacher thinks that the shot heard 'round the world happened during the Boston Massacre, while it actually happened during the Battle of Lexington, right after Paul Revere's Midnight Ride.

It's basic American history and she's a history teacher...

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

My history teacher lets us watch YouTube videos about history instead of teaching us when he's busy. Crash course in history! So this guy said that "tobacco was hateful to the nose and harmful to the lungs." But he likes him some taxes revenue, and nothin sells like drugs! XD I love crash course in history videos. He makes history hilarious.

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

It missed you too Abhay. :P

I just realized that we're kind of misusing the word 'factoid'...apparently it means a 'fact' that has little supporting evidence/is not actually true. The little tidbits of information that we're talking about on this thread are actually called 'factlets'!!!

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

Here's a fun 'factlet'! Messenger pigeons used to be the most common bird in North America!

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

Indeed...wait are you thinking of passenger pigeons?

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Mosquitos are less likely to bite Italians. They think its because of the garlic in their blood.
Yes, I meant passenger, although messenger makes more sense. Who rides pigeons?

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, it's true that if you eat a lot of garlic over a prolonged period of time, it acts as a mild bug repellant.
...I'd ride a pigeon. If it could carry me that is...

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

Whales have dialects. That is, different pods of the same species of whale will each have slight variations of their whale language haha.

message 78: by Allison (new)

Allison Ping pong is considered a sport.

message 79: by [deleted user] (new)

A ping pong ball can reach speeds comparable to a jet engine

message 80: by Allison (new)

Allison Apparently, my middle name is a guy's name.

-_- And I am not a guy.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

My middle name is Chinese and I could not look less Chinese.

message 82: by Allison (new)

Allison Taylor Swift was going to name her third album "Enchanted", but her record label guy thought it sounded too princessy like her second album, so they went with "Speak Now."

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Jim Carrey was offered the role of the 8th Doctor Who. O.o

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

Canada's national sport is lacrosse, not hockey as many people think. (Not that any of us actually play lacrosse though.)

message 85: by Allison (new)

Allison Five Nights at Freddy's is scary.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

So I hear. XD

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

It takes 550 peanuts to make a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.

message 88: by Allison (new)

Allison BLOOD OF OLYMPUS COMES OUT TODAY!!!

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Ancient Egyptians believed that mushrooms grew by magic.
