Isabella | 5 comments Alright, please tell me I'm not the only one who's parents are always bugging them to read the "classics". But let's be honest some of the classics can be pretty boring. So what are some good classics for older kids and teens? Leave your suggestion in the comments below.

Lynne Stringer | 117 comments As ever, it depends on your taste and your age. Jane Austen is the usual go-to girl for everyone when it comes to classics, but while I enjoy her books, they are a trifle wordy. I prefer the Brontes, particularly Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre and Anne Bronte's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. If you want something really brutal, read Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

Jane Eyre. Definitely. Pride and Prejudice is worth considering as well.

Okay, I am the weird one who actually likes the classics and picks them up on her own and loves them :)

I don't to really have a whole lot to recommend at the moment, but I do have bit of a tip for you. Do not go directly from reading easy stuff like the Hunger Games to Les Miserables. It will be painful on your brain to go from something that takes a phrase to describe a tree to something that takes three sentences. Also, as Lynne said, it really depends on your taste. Look at the classics out there, pick something that seems interesting :)

If you like horror you always have Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. A book that I loved and re-read in school for an assignment that a lot of my classmates actually seemed to enjoy was Nathanial Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter.

What are some things that you have read and liked that are not pulp fiction?

Brooke (brooke_writer) The classics may seem boring compared to other great books nowadays, but many of them have so much action and adventure. My two favorite classics are Peter Pan, mostly because I love Neverland so much, and J.M Barrie's writing is spectacular. Also, if you like bloodier books about survival and such, Lord of the Flies is a wonderfully written book with lots of lessons that make you think about life afterwards.

Jessica Hansen | 30 comments I like a really weird collection of books including classics. my favourite classics are black beauty, the hobbit/ Lord of the rings, Peter pan and Anne of green gables. also loved to kill a mockingbird which is an American classic we had to read for English lit.

Maryam | 1125 comments I LOVE classics, i like well written old books, my favorite classics are Heidi, Little Women, A Little Princess and Pippi Longstocking. Thats about it, and if The Twins At St. Clare's is considered a classic, i think you should read it.

Izzy (MagicMind) | 34 comments For classics I have read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"

Minu | 22 comments Jane eyre and the Brontē sisters.....yessss!

Minu | 22 comments I also love The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton..... it's a modern classic, but I think that still counts. It's amazing, it's less heavy vocabulary and it's a good first read for someone getting into the gist of classics.
