Abir (abirbee) | 78 comments In order to prepare for Halloween, we need some monsters.

Each team will be tasked to create their own monster. It will need body parts, brains, a heart, blood, and enough wattage to jolt the thing to life. The process will take four weeks, from Oct. 2 - 30th. (Just in time for Halloween.)

Dates & Details:
🔌 Sign ups are open now.
🔌 Teams will be posted Sept. 28
🔌Teams will be formed based on amount of books read a week
(see template for sign up at the end of this post)
🔌 The game will begin on October 2.
🔌 The game will conclude October 30.
🔌 If your profile is set to private, you will need to open it for the duration of the game. You may need to be contacted by your captain or the moderator.

How to Play:
🔌 Each team will have a set of tasks to be accomplished.
🔌 The tasks must be fulfilled and enough watts earned so that your monster is complete and ready to be jolted to life by midnight Oct. 30th (MST).
🔌 Books must be reported on your teams' thread.
🔌 Post a link to the book, the author, finish date.
🔌 You will not be required to leave a review.

Qualified Books:
🔌 Books must be a 150 page minimum
🔌 Re-reads are allowed
🔌 Graphic novels and poetry books ARE NOT allowed.
🔌 Anthologies are fine, but you must read the entire book.

- Dragon Li - read a fantasy book
- Foldex - read a book with 'X' anywhere on the cover

Kat Hi all, I'm Kat.

I just joined this group and am loving it. This is my first group challenge.

I can take legs or feet. I'm already planning to read Odd Thomas Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1) by Dean Koontz

I can read any others needed but would prefer not to read vampires, college or romance.

Abir (abirbee) | 78 comments No problem..... Just always remember I took a hit for you guys. Okay I'm kidding and I'm being weird, don't mind me.
Do you guys think we should give us a name instead of team 1?

message 10: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 1622 comments Hi Team!

Here is the spreadsheet

Please make sure you can view it. I would like everyone to make sure I've entered your books.

When you finish a book, I need a post like this:

Completion Post

Book/author:
number of pages:
date read:
task & how it fits OR simply write WATTAGE

Example:
Completion Post
Book: Empathy for a Killer by Sarah Masters
number of pages: 202
date read: 10/5/17
task: head
Empathy for a Killer by Sarah Masters

message 11: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 1622 comments I can do the head, Mary Shelley's lifetime (1797-1851), set in Europe, and romance. These I already have planned for other challenges. I can do all or some.

If necessary, I can find something sci-fi, college, and torso.

I do have arms, but only if we're stuck.

Because I am too competitive for my own good, I wouldn't let us fail over a vampire book or non-fiction...but, it would pain me to read it.

One of these days I need to read Twilight so I can if needed. I have no problem with non-fiction.

message 15: by Tallyho (last edited Oct 04, 2017 10:15AM) (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments So I was messing around with my TBR and seeing what I had that would fit...

The Daily Show: An Oral History as Told by Jon Stewart, the Correspondents, Staff and Guests
1 romance book (for the heart)
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers, #1) by Sarah MacLean
1 vampire book (for the blood)

message 16: by Tallyho (last edited Sep 29, 2017 07:32PM) (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments As for team name, my husband suggested "The Univeralists" because Universal Studios put out all of the monster movies. I pointed out that we're reading BOOKS. LOL

Then he suggested "Post-Modern Prometheus" due to the books sub-title being 'A Modern Prometheus'

*I* think we shouldn't have a name, just like Frankenstein's Monster. :) "Nameless"?

I have no objection to the name "Bit & Pieces" either.

message 17: by Kat (last edited Sep 29, 2017 08:05PM) (new)

Kat Another group mentioned having their number in the name so we could do something like "One bit and some extra pieces" or since Mary Shelley is English "One bit and and several bobs"

I like "Post-Modern Prometheus" too.

Captains, please make sure that no one begins reading for a task before Oct. 2.

message 19: by Abir (new)

Abir (abirbee) | 78 comments Hey everyone and welcome. I'm supposed to be the Captain, but I'm a really nice person and I'll let you burn down the house.
Maritza I like it too and if it's okay with everyone we'll go with "Bits n Pieces"
And Susan A, no one will force to read those, I'll do it for you.
But you heard the Big Boss ( AkA Lanelle) in Post 18, NO READING TILL OCT 2

message 20: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 1622 comments I like Bits n Pieces.

message 21: by Kat (last edited Sep 30, 2017 06:30PM) (new)

Kat Bits n Pieces works for me

I'd like to nail down what everyone is reading for their first book. I want to take Legs/Feet Odd Thomas.

Susan A and Tallyho: Have you already decided what book you want to start on Oct 2?

Abir and Maritza: Which items are you interested in and/or don't want?

message 22: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 1622 comments I'll read An Unsuitable Heir for Europe and finish it by the weekend. It is released on 10/3.

The Mary Shelley's lifetime (1797-1851), Damon Snow and the Viscount Temptation, I am hoping to double this up with another challenge, so if it called for BINGO, I'll read it, if it doesn't I'll hold off as long as I can, but I promise I am good to get it done by the challenge end.

message 23: by Tallyho (last edited Oct 01, 2017 09:43AM) (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments I have The Clockwork Scarab (Stoker & Holmes, #1) by Colleen Gleason on my kindle already, so that would be easiest for me! It also fulfills another challenge. :)

I'll also commit to Stray (Shifters, #1) by Rachel Vincent for the torso, unless we don't think that will qualify since it's from the back?

message 24: by Abir (new)

Abir (abirbee) | 78 comments I haven't decided what I'm gonna read yet, I have something on my hands right now hopefully it will be done by tomorrow, I'll let you know, I'm open for anything really so I'll find something.
Remember no reading till Oct 2nd or it won't be accepted.

message 25: by Tallyho (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments I have not started reading anything. It's on my kindle....taunting me! LOL

message 26: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 176 comments Let's see what I find.

message 27: by Tallyho (last edited Oct 02, 2017 11:37AM) (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments OK, Lanelle scuttled Stray (Shifters, #1) by Rachel Vincent , too much bum.

Torso is up for grabs. :)

ETA: I think Into the Dreaming (Highlander, #8) by Karen Marie Moning will do fine for torso, and I have that on my kindle already as well. :)

message 28: by Kat (last edited Oct 04, 2017 08:41AM) (new)

Susan A | 1622 comments Mine are correct.

I have a head, college, and romance that I plan to read this month, so if no one else takes those, I can. I don't have science fiction planned, but I can add that if necessary.

message 30: by Kat (last edited Oct 02, 2017 07:49PM) (new)

Kat I think I'm going to read The Humans by Matt Haig next. I'll use it for science fiction.

message 45: by Abir (new)

Abir (abirbee) | 78 comments Susan I noticed I can't add anything to the spreadsheet. I thought I could add who read what and who'll read what and how we're progressing, but it won't give me the hand.
Kat has been keeping tabs on that, but if we can fill the spreadsheet, it will be easier.
Could you do something about that, please?

message 46: by Susan A (last edited Oct 04, 2017 09:22AM) (new)

Susan A | 1622 comments Yes, I had intended to fill in COMPLETED books - -which would just be the 3. I can do that now.

I'm kind of lost on the planned books as we seem to have multiples for most topics.

UPDATED to here.

message 47: by Tallyho (last edited Oct 04, 2017 10:18AM) (new)

Tallyho | 35 comments We still need wattage! 10 books. So dupes can go in wattage, right?

Whoever completes first gets the tag for the Item, otherwise it goes to wattage?
