Is this book a different book than Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43...)? The cover is almost exactly the same, but from what little Portuguese I can read, the story seems to be different...

No, this is a portuguese book by a portuguese jornalist that explores the return of many portuguese people that used to live in Africa (the old colonies) before the revolution of carnations, in 1974. at the time, they were all forced to leave the overseas with nothing with them, and to re-integrate in portuguese society.
