They are wonderful for readathons! Whether you need a pick-me-up at the beginning, middle, or end, the shortness and illustrations are a good distraction.

A heavy block of audio. A lot of Goodreads checking in this block! Also started the crockpot for the pulled pork at 10am so it will be ready between 5-6pm. Not as much reading as I wanted but I *will* be reading during the next block!

So jealous of your DD iced mocha, sounds delicious!

You've been crushing it so far, especially getting through a good stack of graphic novels. :) You are so right on the length it takes to check in though lol. I also switch an audiobook on, thinking it'll be like 10 minutes max and next thing I know its already almost an hour gone!

and YUM to that crock pot pulled pork. You are crushing your food decisions this round!

Comments:
I participated in Hour 24 reading sprint and read 75 pages of This Is My America. It's also the only book I read in the final 4 hours. I'm 83% through and screw it, I'm finishing it tonight. It's really good.
I also changed up my check-ins, my stats weren't jiving so I re-did them so they only reflect what was happening in each 4-hour block because I realized my food was block-specific but I was tallying my total 'thon stats. No one may have noticed but it irked me. lol.
Wrap-up to come after a full night's rest! And I'll fill out my BINGO board.

Closing Survey
1) How would you assess your reading overall?
I did well, more importantly, I enjoyed myself.
2) Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
Nope! But I did stick to my randomly generated reading order so that was cool!
3) What was your favorite snack?
Everything. Food is good. lol.
4) Wanna volunteer for our next event?
Possibly! We'll see what happens as we get closer to October 24!

Great job! I'm really impressed that you can keep stats down to the minute! I'm a single mom, so I read with a kid in tow. I'd end up spending the entire readathon clicking start and stop on the stop watch rather than actually reading, lol, so I just estimate to the nearest hour and call it good enough.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I'm baaaaack! And I already feel unprepared! lol. It's almost Kingtober and I have no list. I think I will be more lenient this time as I have no King audiobooks and mostly physical books. But I plan on reading It by Stephen King starting Oct 1. I own a physical copy and I also got on the Overdrive holds list for the e-book so I can make the most of reading it. I would like to read it from Oct 1-31! So I will definitely be reading part of that for the 'thon.

message 596: by Elyse (last edited Oct 25, 2020 03:04PM) (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I'm taking it real easy this readathon. I'm not really feeling the social media aspect this time around so I'm going to be pretty scarce. No extra challenges, no discussions, no Bingo. Just reading.

I have 4 Hoopla borrows that return on 10/25 so those are my main focuses:
Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson (about 25% through) Gideon Falls, Vol. 1 The Black Barn by Jeff Lemire Gideon Falls, Vol. 2 Original Sins by Jeff Lemire
I'd like to listen to Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu and then continue listening to The Lady from the Black Lagoon Hollywood Monsters and the Lost Legacy of Milicent Patrick by Mallory O'Meara .
And of course I'm reading It by Stephen King , roughly 300 pages through.

I'm making chicken noodle soup tomorrow so that will be on the supper menu for Saturday. Otherwise it's just whatever snacks are in the house, I'm not making a special trip the grocery store, I only go a couple times a month now.

message 597: by Susan (new)

Susan | 986 comments The reading is the best part imo ;) I guess I’m feeling somewhat similar, but I did get a couple snacks. I got Carmilla on my list, too — seems perfect for this time of year. Hope you enjoy your low key Readathon.

I think the pre-readathon wiped me out for the bingo lol. I might to a few hourly challenges (or whatever we get this year) and maybe some of the instagram challenge but main focus will be reading. I am trying to be more social today and then back when it is over, but might a bit during...Who knows lol. No pressures.
I hope you get some amazing reading time in.
As for shopping, I get it. I've been limiting trips myself lately and let us get really low and refused to go until last night. Haha! So now I have all the options! Although no special trips. Just whatever I could get at one store and making it work!
