Lizzy | 5 comments A girl who was the subject of a medical experiment, and ended up growing wings throughout the book. For most of the book, she simply has a humped back where the wings later sprout. From the time she was a little girl, her father, a scientist, makes her do the Iron Cross move from gymnastics so that she can later fly. She and her father live in a dystopian country within the United States that is like a Catholic cult country, possibly located in the Appalachians (I think that's where it was located). They were trying to get her out of the country because there were people looking for her to continue the medical experiments. Specifically, an assassin was hired to kill her and harvest her ovaries so they could continue the experiment. Also, the communion wine was drugged, and there was a character that was really big so the drugs didn't affect him, but I don't remember how he factored into the story. I've tried doing a million google searches and haven't come up with anything, even though I think I know a lot of the plot details!

When did you read it? Remember the cover? Series or standalone? Author female or male?

I read it maybe in 2008-09, somewhere around that time. It wasn't brand new, but I am pretty sure it was only a few years old at that point. Maybe early 2000s? It was stand alone, I'm almost certain the author was male, and I think the cover was mostly blue or black, definitely dark colors. I feel like the title was some play on words, or maybe included a number.
