Mwk | 2 comments The children in this story go on an adventure and there is a castle and a moat etc. . . They then go back some years later and they realise there imaginations had exaggerated the greatness of the place. The place was overgrown and did not have the sparkle they remembered from their first adventure.

Mwk, when did you read this or when was it published? Remember the cover?

Michele | 2488 comments Do you recall how old the kids are when they had their adventures, or anything about where the book was set (US, UK, what part of the country)? Anything about how long the book was (thin, medium, Moby-Dick-size)? Would you call this a children's or YA book, or was it more aimed at adults?

Mwk | 2 comments the kids were in there teens. I think maybe they visited the place again a couple of years later thats where the sheen had worn off their adventures.

It was published some time ago - I read it in 1997 and I think the book had been around for a while.

I read through it in 1/2 -> 3/4 of a day so it was thin to medium sized.

The nice touch the author had with the story was showing how things from childhood had an extra sense of magic.

The author may have been French but can't remember for sure.
