These are rules and guidelines regarding our challenges at The Novelholics Pub. Some of our challenges will have specific rules, but these are general rules which span all challenges:
1. For every book read during a challenge, you must submit a review or a minimum of 4 status updates, with details specific to the book, for your book to count towards a challenge. This is to keep things fair for everybody. It is not that we don't trust you if you say you have read a book, but I'm sure everybody would agree that it would be unfair of us to award points to someone who has not actually read the book they say they have read. Please do not be offended if we ask you to add details to your review. Simple things like what you liked and disliked about the book are a good place to start.
2. Buddy reads only count for extra points if they are done within our group. We want people to buddy read, but we feel it is only fair to give extra points to those people who are active in the group, especially when challenges are involved.
3.A buddy read won't count if you haven't actually discussed the book. We expect you to make around 4 detailed comments for your buddy read to count. Saying 'Starting', 'chapter 4', 'finished' will not count as you haven't actually discussed the book. Again, comments about what you liked and disliked about the book are a good place to start.
4.Books have to be 100 pages or longer to count towards challenges. You should be able to find the number of pages in a physical book, on goodreads, or on amazon. Middle-Grade books need to be at least 150 pages (without illustrations) to count. Poetry books, and books written in verse need to be at least 300 pages to count.
5.Each book can only be used once during each individual challenge. If your book fits two or more challenges that are being run at the same time, you can use it once in each challenge. More details regarding how you can use books in challenges will be provided with each individual challenge.
6.Manga, picture books, books with more pictures than words do not count. You may read non-fiction, but if your book has mainly pictures, you will not be able to use it (eg: a cookery book which is mainly pictures would not count).
7.1 Re-read is allowed per challenge, unless otherwise stated. We ask that you write a new review (if you have already written one), and make sure that you have important details included so that we know that you have definitely re-read the book. Again, this is to keep things fair for everybody.
8.Books must be read within the challenge dates to qualify. All challenges will clearly state '* Books must be read between -start date- and -end date- inclusively'. Please make sure that your 'date started' and 'date finished' dates on your review are within these dates. For everyone's convenience, we will follow GMT time zone, so notify of your reviews in the same way.
9.Reviews must be unique and your own. Plagiarized reviews will not be accepted, and you will be removed from the challenge if caught cutting and pasting someone else's reviews.
If You have any doubt, then don't hesitate to comment below. If it is a topic related (e.g. where to request for a buddy read, etc) then check our folder NEW MEMBERS: FIRST HERE.
