Hello. First off, I want to apologise if I'm posting in the wrong place. I read the rules and looked through the boards a bit, but honestly, I was overwhelmed. This group is clearly very organised, and I hope I'm not messing with the system.
Anyway, I was hoping that people could point me to books that will assist me tp write authentically in a New York City setting, preferably in ways that would work for a set of fairly affluent and artistic new adult characters.
I have been to NYC three times, however that was over a decade ago, before adolescence. While I've read/watched a great deal of fiction set in the Big Apple, I'm concerned if I don't try to work it out from a writing point of view, my book will end up full of Britishisms (like I hear 50 Shades is).
Which books about North American culture, language, and New York itself (state or city) would you recommend?
Hello. I just discovered your post. I understand this isn't the answer you were looking for, but I actually have the opposite conundrum as you. I currently live in NYC, and my work in progress takes place in Scotland. If you like, you can contact me and we can maybe help each other out. If you have any questions about NYC culture, language, etc, I can help you with that, and if you want you can help if I have any questions about Scotland? My email is andreachurchillbooks@yahoo.com
