Reading Classic Books for the First Time

I have just started reading this book and I find it hard to read because of the wording. I am enjoying the story line. Any helpful comets would be appreciated.

With Dickens in particular patience is key. I sometimes think I'm reading something tedious and irrelevant, but when I've finished the book I struggle to remember a scene or passage which did not directly feed into the plot perfectly towards the end.

When I was in school I had to read some literature in Old French; I wouldn't focus on every word or stop to look up a word I didn't know. I kept the flow of the sentence and looking back I understood. I remember when I first started reading Dickens it took a few chapters to get used to the flow. Your brain will get used to his style if you keep at it. :)

Oh it's a great book! I love classics, I read them a lot and what I've discovered is that in order to really enjoy them you have to take your time reading. It takes me twice as long to read a page comparing to when I'm reading a contemporary book and that usually takes me aback every time I start reading a classic book but after 100 pages or so I accept it. Hope you'll like it! :)
