I want to discuss again WHY I created this group and why I asked my amazing friends to help…
We all do it. We strive for that next book. You know, the book that hits the shelves and is new and shiny. Yes, that book sounds amazing and we want to read it. It’s more than that though. We want to be the FIRST ones to own it. We want to be the FIRST ones to review it. Why? Because then we get eyes on our hard work, right? If you are the first person to read and review that book, people will read/watch it. They WANT info about that book. Oh, and that’s how you get the attention of ARC providers, right?
If you read that book years after it came out, no one cares. Why? They are learning about the new books! They already read all the reviews for your book. They already saw all the videos. It’s old news. Your hard work goes barely noticed.
I found myself inside the bookstore one day. I had two books to choose from. The new, shiny book that people would want to read a review about and the old one. I simply couldn’t decide. I wanted to read both! I never read a book I don’t want to (except school lol) Yet, if I chose the older book, I would be ignored. I’d work hours on a beautiful Instagram shot, all day on a review, post it on twitter and no one would care. If I chose the new book, I may actually get a few hits! People may WANT to know about that book and if they should buy it. If there weren’t too many reviews out there, I may actually get eyes on my stuff. I chose the new book. Was that a mistake? No, the new book was wonderful. I just wish the older books were viewed as much as the new ones.
I created this group to celebrate the older books. I want to go to a book sale, find a book and remember it from a recent booktube video. Keep in mind, the books at my sales are older.
When I have a small budget, but need a new book, I want to remember that great blogger that I love! I want to see what their recommendations are for older/cheaper books. Ya know, the ones we can actually afford? Haha
New books are wonderful. Our authors will come out with new books and we just need to have them. New isn’t bad, it’s needed. Older books are needed too.
What if you missed the hype for a particular book and missed out on a great read? What if you’ve never heard of an older author and missed out? What if you spent time (like me) worrying about getting eyes on your work and missed out on a great story?
I created this group so that we had a place to go. A place where you can review your older book and people will read it. They may even come to you for advice. I want a place where we recommend books that people forgot about. Quite honestly, I want book recs for books that are cheap paperbacks or $2 on my future Kindle! Lol
Let’s support each other, spread the word and form a little community within the community who will read/promote/encourage each other to read “old.” Please help me get this group going again!
