ABANDONED. Fantasy book with a barbarian with a floating sword and a mage with her glove of death

Ok so, a book pops into my memory every few years, but I remember so little of it I don't think i'll ever find it. I read it about 15 years ago, and don't know how long it was out before that. I think it might have been the beginning of a series, but I'm not 100% about that. The end definitely left us with questions, but i forget what those questions were.

What I do remember is this:
1) The beginning of the book speaks of some great evil in the sky. I don't remember if it's a dragon, or dark cloud. I just remember a feeling of dread, and something large enough to block out the sun.

2) There was a warrior or barbarian in the protagonists group who finds a sword he can control telepathically.

3) The main protagonist i think was a mage, and by the end of the book she had a glove or a gauntlet that could kill. There was supposed to be a counterpart to this glove, with the power of life or some such, but i dont believe it was ever found in the book.

4) The antagonist was an evil wizard or lich in a castle. Can't really remember much about him, but it was male, and very powerful with magic.

I know this isn't much to go on, so I don't have too much hope anyone remembers reading it. My usual resources haven't helped, with the sheer volume of fantasy books out there to search through.

That, I'm not sure of. I think it might have been, but I was young when I read it so it could have just felt that way.
