Spooky Stories for the Halloween Season! Due to popular demand, The Koontzland - Dean Koontz Group will feature a second title as a group read during the Month of October. Our official Group Read Selection is Seize the Night (book two in the Chris Snow Series).

Please consider reading Strange Highways with us in October. You have lots of options including reading only the stories that appeal to you, reading the stories in your choice of order or reading straight through the entire volume.

Strange Highways contains the popular Halloween Story of The Black Pumpkin and is one of Dean's rare short story collections. Strange Highways will be featured during the entire month of October 2017.

This collection was previously featured in the Koontzland - Dean Koontz Group in 2010 and again in 2015. You can visit the older discussion threads by clicking links below:

Thank You & Happy Reading! :-)

Helpful Hint for those seeking an Audiobook to help travel Strange Highways this October:

Strange Highways is available in audiobook format, however this audiobook contains ONLY the title & longest story in the collection.

You will also need to obtain a collection called Wilderness and Other Stories. This collection includes among other short stories, four stories from Strange Highways: Down in the Darkness, Trapped, Kittens and Chase.

Matthew | 183 comments Down in the Darkness could make for a really unsettling listening experience. Not sure I could handle it...especially with earphones. Heh

Barbara | 486 comments I read Strange Highways and I'm not really a fan of short stories....but as usual....if Dean writes it I'm going to read it!!!

We need more people like you in the world :-)

Charissa Wilkinson (lilmizflashythang) | 271 comments 'Down in the Darkness' does ask, "what would you do?". Personally, I would exorcise the place with the Bible. If that didn't work, I'd burn the place down. No temptation on my part.

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 486 comments This was not the book I expected. It was better. I knew only one of the tales told in this.

Susan (ofearna) | 2 comments I could maybe do a youtube read of "The Scariest Thing I Know", if anyone's interested...

That would be fun

I'm currently reading Seize the Night which is our other October Group Read. After finishing, I'll check out some of the Strange Highways Stories. Not sure if I'll read all of them - we'll see.

Greetings.
Due to my current work schedule I did not get a poll set up to select a November Group Read, so I am extending Strange Highways into November. Will post a poll soon to select December Group Read (in addition to The Whispering Room). Of course if you need more Koontz, we can always arrange another featured book rather quickly for November.

Thank you.

I listened to it this past week :-)

There some very dark stories in this collection. I just finished BRUNO, which I think helped lighten the overall tone of the volume.

Charissa Wilkinson (lilmizflashythang) | 271 comments Bruno is good, Hard Shell is better.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 6121 comments Mod
I haven't gotten to Hard Shell this time around yet.
I am currently reading The Night of the Storm, which I also find interesting :-)
