Maurice is definitely up there for me. I'd also include Boys in the Band, The Ritz and Torch Song Trilogy on my most watched list.

Michael (goodreadscommichael_price_nelson) | 9 comments Hi, all. I loved "Beautiful Thing as Well." I've probably watched "Priscilla" more than any other m/m movie. Loved the French "La Cage Aux Folles" which beats the other versions. I loved "Simon" and have seen that three times already!

message 53: by Rick (new)

Rick | 1767 comments Love, Simon is definitely going to get re-watched a lot for me as it's such a light, easy and fun rom-com.

I've to add Call Me By Your Name now as well. This one is going to be something I come back to again and again.

I'd be up for that. Argh! I could watch him doing the dishes and be helplessly mesmerized. For me he's totally spellbinding and completely enchanting.

Another I really like is "The Line of Beauty". It's not as good as the novel, but still a lot better than your average Gay movie.

Just checked, it's not available from the library. :(

Aww, thank you! Sage is the one in the cat carrier, pretending it's a TARDIS (he later got a chance to steal one when his dad built a cat TARDIS for him). Cinnamon is the one on my foot, attempting to mind control me into feeding her. :)

(If you have no idea what I mean by TARDIS, ignore me. :))

Time and Relative Dimension in Space.

I know exactly what you mean.

You mean it's bigger on the inside. Or as Clara once but it - "It's smaller on the outside."

My prediction is that Jodie Whittaker is going to be an AWESOME Doctor. :D

I dying while having to wait. And it's likely that I'll have to wait until after it's out on disc as I have to work at the Public Library on Sunday when it's going to be broadcast on BBC America. :(

I started re-watching all the surviving episodes of the classic series earlier this year. I've gotten up to The Five Doctors (1983). I'm currently taking a break, but I'll probably start up again soon if I don't get to see the new episodes this fall.

Yes, I am a Whovian. ;D

Right there with you...I, too, am a Whovian. :) I got hooked after seeing 'Rose'...and Captain Jack Harkness's appearance fulfilled a long held cherished wish regarding science fiction TV shows. :) I'm now watching and collecting some of the classics. :)

She was breathtaking in Broadchurch. So, unless the writing sucks, she'll likely be ... brilliant.

(pun intended) ;D

IT LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING TO SEE THE NEW SERIES AFTER ALL! :D

BBC America is re-broadcasting the first episode at 6PM, 8PM & 10PM! :D

I'm soooo excited I'm just peed my pants. ;)

K.S. Trenten (cauldronkeeper) | 47 comments Rick wrote: "Hmmm, so now that the Doctor's a woman, does that make Doctor Who an LGBTQ show?"

Not to mention we've already had Captain Jack and Bill in the TARDIS and they're just the most open. I got the impression Clara might have had something going on with Jane Austen. Plus, there was Nina. :)

message 73: by Rick (new)

Rick | 1767 comments "Well, hello there."

"What? I just said hello."
"For you, that's flirting."

Captain Jack is a thing all his own. LOVE Captain Jack! :D

Bill was great too. But I never really liked Clara. Could never quite warm up to her. And I'd completely forgotten about "Nina" - yeah that was funny.

Man, I miss Torchwood. I do hope Captain Jack shows up with the new Doctor. I can hear him now.

"Well, hello there."
"It's me Jack."
"Doctor?" Pause as he looks her up and down. "I like the new look. Very fetching."

Lark Benobi (larkbenobi) Does Lawrence of Arabia count?

message 75: by Rick (new)

Rick | 1767 comments Lark wrote: "Does Lawrence of Arabia count?"

I think it does, but it might be stretching it a bit since a lot of that might be considered subtext. When I saw the movie in the theater in a re-release as a kid I missed that stuff entirely. Or at least it didn't register consciously with me at the time.

message 76: by Lark (new)

Lark Benobi (larkbenobi) well yes, it's subtext, but I love any subtext when it's between Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif.

this scene for instance--

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Malek did with this role in the new Papillon. I didn't get to see it in the theater so I'm eagerly awaiting the disc release.

A remake of Lawrence of Arabia would be really something since the story as told in the David Lean version is basically the same story as Avatar--white person comes to save the natives. I'm a little ashamed of my avid love for it when I was young. T.E. Lawrence may or may not have been gay so it would also be interesting to see how a director chose to portray him in the 21st century.

I doubt they could improve upon the Steve McQueen / Dustin Hoffman effort.

The new one has Charlie Hunnam (the original Queer as Folk & Sons of Anarchy) / Rami Malek (Mr. Robot & Bohemian Rhapsody) in the respective roles. Both of whom I like much more than McQueen & Hoffman. So I do have hopes.

I like Hunnam a lot. I've only seen Malek in Mr Robot and in that he does not appeal. Too dry. Was this based on a novel?

Mopple | 19 comments probably center of my world with subs...gorgeously shot and soundtrack...wowser..it's an upgraded simon..i didn't love simon tbh..they missed out a third of the book to be pc. And that kiss was not exactly passionate-lol
alex strangelove-cringey but cute with decent chemistry.
freier fall (free fall) is getting a sequel-proper realistic adult drama with 2 incredible performances. german cinema pulls it out of the bag ..
recently loved closet monster..great soundtrack and crumbs that poor boy...and handsome devil (english schoolboys)

Kring Demetrio (thedrawerkring) | 4 comments EYES WIDE OPEN (2009) - Most interesting because its in-depth peak into Jewish culture and customs...and led me to read into Jewish attitudes towards LGBT people in their community. Though, I still have many lingering questions. Like, what is a "modesty police"?

DIE KONSEQUENZ (1977) - Oh I wish I could find a copy of the autobiography this was based on. I was moved by both young and older actors. And I really want to know what actually happened to Thomas. It surprised me how badly the picture aged. The story is good, but the picture is quite faded. I've seen older films but this looks ancient. However, this is a good movie, so I would still recommend it to anyone.

Man, I wish I looked into the thread regularly, I see a lot of great recommendations here!

Both of those you mentioned are such sweet and enjoyable movies! A more recent one I'm looking forward to watching is The Thing About Harry. Hopefully that one will rank right up there with Love, Simon and TBHC :)

It is such a fun movie. Trick is one of those films that just lifts my spirits. Sure movies like Maurice, Brokeback Mountain, Call Me By Your Name, My Own Private Idaho, Mysterious Skin & My Beautiful Laundrette (To name just a half dozen favorites) are probably “better” films, but Trick is just silly romcom fun and sometimes you just want to laugh at how silly the process of dating actually is.

Just make sure it’s the one from 1999 and not the horror film made in 2019. Or you’ll be in for quite a shock. 😼
