After the success of our first few monthly read-a-thons, we have decided to ask you all how you're enjoying them and whether you would prefer them to be quarterly instead of monthly?

Quarterly they would line up with the seasonal challenges, and also perhaps make them more enjoyable by not having them too often. We would hate to see everyone get sick of them, and in a few months time we would have hardly any participants.

I'll leave this feedback thread open for about a week just to gauge your thoughts on it all:)

Thanks guys!

My thoughts are that since I read every weekend I'll just automatically join in whenever there is a challenge. However you do have a point that there might be difficulty keeping the excitement going if the challenges happen too often:) We obviously needed every reader we had this last one because we only just scraped in over the 10,000.

Elaine | 2001 comments I agree with Phrynne, Brenda. Regardless of a challenge or not I'm still going to be reading on the weekend. Only thing that changes are the social commitments. I always work all day on a Saturday so that won't really change. I'm happy to go along with the majority, whether it's monthly or quarterly though I think I'll still join in and give it my best. :)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I am happy to do it monthly or quarterly. I read on weekends regardless.

My only comment is that I enjoy doing things as a group; it's great to see members participating on a certain theme.

Sharon | 5549 comments I'm also happy to do it monthly or quarterly as I read on the weekends anyway.

I think there a lot of people who are not aware of the read- a -thon so maybe when you send out the emails for the monthly or quarterly challenges you could add an extra note letting people know. This is just a thought :)

Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 839 comments Quarterly readathons might be a good way, as you said, to tie in with other challenges, to have a bit of a reading blitz to finish them off. You could then have a bit more build up and interest.
Having said that, I'd still join in with the monthly readathon because it's just a nice way to connect.

Sally906 | 90 comments I too read every weekend (well every day lets be honest) so is no trouble to count my pages for one weekend - I don't go out of my way to read extra just because it is a challenge weekend.

I lean towards quarterly though so it becomes a special time tied in with other challenges - or an easy one to join in for those who don't do the challenges because we all read.

I think quarterly otherwise the novelty might wear off

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. I'll wait for more before any decisions are made:)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10005 comments the only thing I do different for a readathon is to note my pages numbers, so I would join in either way

message 11: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9886 comments I would also join in anyway if it stays as a monthly event, but I can see that the novelty might wear off esp once the weather warms up again. Quarterly would make it more of a special event. I'd even think of scheduling a day or half day off work for the Friday so I could make a weekend of it. Could also be a good way to kick start a new seasonal or monthly challenge if held at the start of the month.

Taking a half day off on the Friday is great dedication :)

Not a bad idea either :)

Veronica ⭐️ | 2387 comments I really like the monthly challenge as I don't get much spare time to read and it makes me take extra time out on the challenge weekend.

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments This was my first readathon as for some reason I was unaware of them before this one, I think that was to do with all the mail problems GR has had.
I'm like most, I read every weekend anyway and it's easy to keep track of pages but I think I would be more devoted to the challenge if it was quarterly rather than monthly, that way I could better plan it and not feel so guilty neglecting my other commitments.

Rosie | 295 comments I will join in whether they are monthly or quarterly. I read every day regardless.

Not so much dedication, but more like getting a bonus long weekend with extra time to yourself :D

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll close this thread now, but keep your eyes peeled for the new thread in the upcoming days when we announce the new direction our read-a-thon will be going in:)
