Thanks again! Yes, a wild ride. Spooky like October!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Erika - The Trials: A Pride and Prejudice Story was an awesome read!! I don't know why I didn't read it sooner. Thanks so much for picking it for me.

For anyone who's interested, here's my 5-star review:

I have wondered about this one. Looks like I'll have to check it out.

i personally think that The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy is better than The Trials: A Pride and prejudice story, but both are fairly similar.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments ....Honorable F Darcy aside... the language was a complete turn off for me. When you use the F word while making love... that is too much. It could have been just a book about a judge and an attorney falling in love and I could have gritted my teeth and accepted it. But to see the demeaning way our P&P characters were portrayed and how Darcy was reduced to a blathering idiot... nope... can't handle that. I did not like it. No offense. It hit me wrong and I could not handle it... sorry.

I'll have to read The Trials in order to compare them.

Jean, which book did you not like. I enjoyed them both but 1) I'm an attorney so i enjoyed the legal aspect (which is sometimes hard to do if not semi-realistically portrayed) and 2) the language didn't bother me. I don't remember much else about them. I don't even know if i wrote a review. oops. However, I appreciate your issues, some books just work for us and others do not.

Mary | 709 comments 'The Trials of the Hon.Fitzwilliam Darcy' is the book that Jeanne disliked,Sara.
It was littered,if memory serves, with a lot of 'colourful language' that took from the storyline. I've got that right Jeanne, haven't I?

message 62: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments It was The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy. I loved that he was a judge, I loved that she was an attorney and I loved that they fell in love with each other. I love a large-and-in-charge Darcy and I just loved him. And yet... I did not appreciate how he was depicted and the language was horrid. I've been around language ... since I have worked in the public. However, it just didn't feel right between Darcy and his love. It seemed out of place. It was Dec of '15 when I read it... it still grates on my nerves. Perhaps if I read it again... it might not grate. I just don't want to put myself through it.

message 66: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 414 comments I haven't read that -- I rarely read JAFF that isn't Regency and it is mostly for just that reason.

Modern scatological references; sex acts that would have caused a 19th century gentleman to blush asking a brothel madame to arrange -- just too far away from Austen for me.

message 67: by Sara (new)

Sara | 328 comments Jeanne, i don't see why you should read it again. There are plenty of good books out there!! I agree with your assessment though.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Thanks Sara... that's what I like about this site. We can agree to disagree and we can still be friends. My 5-stars may be someone's 2-stars... it's happened. Your 5-stars, is my 3-stars. No problem. Hopefully we will agree on the next one. I love this site. And... I love you guys. Y'all are awesome.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Aak!!! Jeanne, once again I mysteriously dropped off this thread, and then forgot all about it. A million apologies! I have no idea why this keeps happening, and only with the “Someone Else Pick” threads.

It’s doubtless too late now, but for you I would pick the Cat Gardiner trilogy Denial of Conscience.

Patricia, I’m so sorry I didn’t see your pick for me earlier in the month. I will get to it as soon as I can and report back!

{grovel grovel grovel}

message 70: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments No worries Abigail. I still have time. I love Cat Gardiner's work and look forward to read it. Thanks. If I had thought about it... I could have said something to you... so see... grovel, grovel, grovel... right back at you

message 71: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 414 comments Yikes -- Kristen, I neglected to report that I did indeed read your pick for me Waking to Mr. Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Novella.

I had intended to catch up with several other Leenie Brown stories I have been stockpiling (and I still want to do that) and didn't post when I read that story.

It was good but not great.

What's this? Are we all lying down on the floor? Some kind of weird thematic party?

I got my glasses today! I see what you mean about the steps. When I walked outside to the parking lot, I felt like a giant!

message 73: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Sara, are you sure you intended to compare The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy with The Trials: A Pride and Prejudice Story? While I love both books (I don't find the F-bomb off-putting in a modern P&P), I can't see any similarity at all between them except for "The Trials" in their titles. I'm thinking maybe you confused one or the other with a different book?

Yeah... and you will see things that you didn't before... and go... how'd I miss that. Enjoy!!

Abigail: Woohoo! I finished your October pick for me just in the nick of time. Whew! I've neglected the house and the laundry [my husband caught me in his boxers] because I was out of clean underwear. Wait... that didn't sound right. Dang!!! It must be the afterglow from those Conscience books. Cat Gardiner... curse you!!
