Angela Meyer ... why sometimes you see the series name as part of the book title, and other times you don't?

For example, when I look at the books for Paula Danziger (via an author name search), I see "P.S. Longer Letter Later (Elizabeth and Tara*Starr, #1)" and "Snail Mail, No More". These books are in series together. When I click on each of those books, it shows the series name and sequence in grey (e.g. "Snail Mail, No More (Elizabeth and Tara*Starr #2)" It appears (consistently?) the same on the series screen as it does from the author screen.

Some serieses show the series name and sequence # for every book (eg Sarah, Plain and Tall series) Others, don't show the series name at all, except when looking at the book directly (eg Clem Martini's series)

Does the difference mean something? Is it an irrelevant inconsistency? Is it an inconsistency worthy of reporting so it can be corrected? If it should be reported, how and where would be best?

Just trying to understand and help. Thanks, in advance, for the information and clarification.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments It is an option to include it when creating the book record.

Personally I prefer it in the title because it makes it easy when searching my shelf to see which number in the series a book is.

Z-squared | 8576 comments I would add that although either choice is correct from a policy standpoint, it's usually best to maintain a consistent approach for an entire series. So if you see a series listing whose books are a mix of title-only and series-plus-title, that's worth pointing out to a librarian to fix.

S.R. Grey (sr_grey) | 45 comments I have a general question. My book has a 2-star rating that I'm sure is an accident (it's not published yet). But when I look for the rater, I can't find anything. Does it just need updating? Help! I can't figure out why it's still there if the person fixed it.

Here's the book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Over the years, goodreads also had different methods for adding books to series including just typing in parentheses in book titles (currently librarians have to create series and add books to them; I think that started because when authors were allowed to add they kept creating multiple duplicates of a series all having one book rather than adding the book to the existing series—that us, if they had a four-books series instead of creating one series with all four books correctly sequenced they would duplicate the series four times putting only one book in each).

As a reader, I prefer seeing series in title when searching and when looking at my books; if not typed in title field the series only shows on the book page which can be annoying if the book you are looking for has a much used title. Plus, searching by series name works better if typed in title.
