Chapter 2

I am now on Chapter 6 and the romance is developing, albeit unspoken. I am loving this book, the lyrical nature of the writing, the gentleness of the unfolding of the love. However, there are some bits which go right over my head (far too intellectual) and the whole of Chapter 2 made no sense to me. It's at the school where a master is sacked, I think, and Lanyon has to leave too for some reason. Laurie has a great long conversation with Lanyon before he goes and I really didn't understand it. Now that Lanyon is reappearing in the story, reference is being made to Chapter 2 and I wish I had understood it properly. Can anyone explain?
