SPOILER ALERT Am I the only one who within a few chapters of reading this book knew what was going on? As soon as I read the teacher's POV I immediately thought, "Boom! he banged one of his students." And I knew as soon as Jules' rape was revealed and Nel asked her "Did you enjoy it?" that she wasn't talking about the rape, but about the water. To me it seemed so obvious. Predictable. I knew pretty quickly about Katie and the teacher. The only mystery I couldn't pin down was who pushed Nel (cause it's SO obvious she was pushed). I kind of chuckled to myself thinking it was the cop/lover who pushed her because of her story about his mother, but I cast that thought aside cause it's too predictable and what do you know, I was right. Yawn.
I'm not trying to sound cocky. I LOVED The Girl on the train but this just didn't fit the bill. Very unfortunate.
I was totally thrown by the whole plot. Admittedly I don't often read this genre so maybe that was why. None the less I really enjoyed it and went on to read Find Me by J Monroe as I enjoyed the plot so much
agreed. i felt like some of the things that happened and that you already named were definitely obvious or easy to figure out. and i called the ending part too way before it was revealed. this book seemed a lot more predictable than the girl on the train. i also didn't really like/ bond with most of the characters in into the water so i never really felt much pain or sadness for the things that happened throughout the book.
I haven't read Girl on the Train but I was not impressed by this book. It was hard to feel emotions of any kind for any of the characters. The book was just a bunch of small town gossip. I normally read mystery and thriller books and this one just left a bad taste in my mouth. Also, the author made a big deal about the "troublesome women" from previous centuries but I don't feel like that had much to do with the story. The story would have moved the same way if Anne Ward and the others were never mentioned.
