Sever Buddy Read

David and I are starting a buddy read for the final book in the Wither trilogy on Wednesday July 2nd! Everyone is welcome to join!

There are no set chapters per day, we just read at our own paces and start each post with how far along you are, i.e., Chapter #, %, using spoilers where needed. Have fun!

YAY!! I'm very close to finishing Fever, should definitely finish up tomorrow so I'll be all ready for Wednesday :)

Okay I'm 28% in the story so far. Its reading really quick...I forgot how much I love Lauren Destefano's writing! Its been so long since I read Wither and Fever, but it all came back to me within the first chapter! (view spoiler)[ Linden, Linden, Linden...talk about burying your head in the sand! I feel really bad for Cecily right now. I'm amazed she didn't die, I was sure she was dead! (hide spoiler)]

Awesome! Yeah, I'm with you, her writing is pretty amazing. I think I could read anything she writes :)

Sorry, I had my own head in the sand (like Linden) and was reading reading reading and not posting. I'll do two updates since I'm pretty far along:

Page 92, 25%- (view spoiler)[This story is pretty heartbreaking, for all the main characters. But I think DeStefano's done a fantastic job of making them all extremely likeable.

Although I'm a bit disappointed about how slow-moving the story is, I'm still enjoying it. I really thought they'd go after her brother quicker, but they just keep delaying it. Don't get me wrong, I really like Reed as a character, but I just think a lot of it could've been cut out to hurry things along a little.

Something I'm *just* starting to learn about DeStefano is that everything is planned and has a purpose, even if I felt like her story was just random at first. Something is definitely going on with her brother. Something big. (hide spoiler)]

Page 230, 65%-(view spoiler)[Awesome!!!! I definitely did not see Rose being Madame's daughter coming! That was a great twist! But I really HATED how Rhine gave her a pass and said she wasn't a bad person, just broken. She is still a TERRIBLE person, even if she's had a hard life and was screwed over by Vaughn like everyone else. But that was still an awesome twist, one I was really glad about because previous I thought the whole thing with Madame was just a filler to make sure there was enough material for three books.

ALSO, the reunion with her brother was pretty well done. But now I just want to read on to see if he really was working for Vaughn! I hope not! (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to 56% (view spoiler)[ Just learned about Rose. I love how that all tied together! Wow, Vaughn really did screw over everyone, didn't he? I am really worried about the brother now, he might have gone off the deep end! (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[Loved all the twists although I was seriously shouting at the book when they all got into the plane together with someone who'd NEVER FLOWN ONE! I was like, "Really?" They're lucky only one of them died.

So glad Cecily killed Vaughn regardless of the "good" he was trying to do. He was still an evil evil man. And although Madame helped Cecily kill him, I still think Rhine gave her a major pass when she didn't deserve one. It was great getting a glimpse of the future! (hide spoiler)]

Okay, for your comments at 65%--I agree with you completely (view spoiler)[no way could I completely excuse Madame, she was just as twisted as Vaughn. I did feel sorry for her, but people have to live with tragedy all the time. It doesn't mean you can just be evil! (hide spoiler)]

I LOL when I found out there we going to (view spoiler)[Hawaii!!! I thought Hawaii was one of the last places you'd want to be in an apocalypse (because of the volcanoes), but maybe not! But it did sort of make sense in this world I guess. (hide spoiler)]

I was thinking the same thing, although (view spoiler)[ it was completely believable (the plane ride) in the context of the story...Rhine was not really herself in that moment, so she wasn't being very careful, Linden was trying to deal with way too much, Cecily was being her childish self, and Reed was a crazy old man. And even though it ended in tragedy, it was a nice moment for Linden I suppose, getting to ride in an airplane and seeing the possibilities. But I was SHOCKED when he died..I so did not see that one coming! I was unbelieveably happy when Cecily finally killed Vaughn. And I'm glad it was her...she did it mainly for her son, which was a noble reason. Vaughn had to die, he was a sadistic evil dude...and you know he was going to be even worse with Linden dead. I was happy they found the cure and Gabriel is okay. After all that, I don't feel much for the brother (Rowan) honestly, and feel like that part of the story was left pretty open ended. But I'm glad they all had some hope. (hide spoiler)]

You're welcome! I'm glad I finally finished this series! I have sooo many that I just need to read the last book. Most of them I'll probably have to reread the whole series to finish it. This one really sticks in your head--no rereading was necessary! And I really liked all your comments too, some had me giggling :)
