Mollie the setting takes place in a little apartment above a storefront in amsterdam and is not a big part of the book if it was anywhere else itwould still have the same theme a girl who is running from Hitler

Michaela Osiecki ....you do KNOW this is the diary of a REAL girl, right? Not a work of fiction? She was literally just writing in her diary while being confined for her and her family's safety.

I'm getting the distinct impression that "today's" generation - meaning, the *grandchildren* of those who lived through WW II - do NOT realize that this is not a work of fiction.

In fact, while they do seem to have some vague understanding of "Nazis" and "Fascists" and 'Hitler", etc. etc. they're unable to place those things in an actual historical context. Hence someone's asking what this book is "About", on another thread.
